About the Role

As part of the Data Science Research Department at Riskified, you will play a crucial role in building and optimizing the ML platform, tools, and utilities that empower the Data Science team to train, optimize, and deploy sub-second decisioning models used in the critical path of the largest organizations in the world.

This role requires a multidisciplinary approach, combining expertise in data engineering, software development, MLOps, and ML automation. You will develop scalable ML platforms, create tools and utilities to streamline workflows, and contribute to AutoML solutions that enhance Riskified’s unique model advantage.

You’ll work with Python, Spark, Airflow, SQL, Kafka, AWS, Kubernetes, and Snowflake, collaborating closely with data scientists and engineers to deliver efficient, production-grade solutions that improve model performance and operational efficiency.

What You'll Be Doing

• Building and Optimizing ML Platforms – Develop and maintain scalable ML platforms, tools, and services that enhance Riskified’s Data Science capabilities.
• Developing Data Science Utilities & AutoML Tools – Create automated workflows and utilities that improve efficiency, reduce overhead, and allow data scientists to focus on model development and research.
• Optimizing Data Workflows – Build efficient and automated data pipelines using Python, SQL, Airflow, and Spark to support ML training, inference, and analytics.
• MLOps & Model Deployment – Deploy, monitor, and continuously improve ML solutions using CI/CD, Docker, and Kubernetes, ensuring seamless model lifecycle management.
• Big Data Processing – Architect and manage distributed data pipelines leveraging Spark, Kafka, and Snowflake, ensuring high availability and performance.
• Cross-Functional Collaboration – Work closely with Data Science, Engineering, and Product teams to integrate ML capabilities into Riskified’s ecosystem.
• Seeing the Big Picture & Coding the Details – Understand the wider system architecture while developing high-quality, scalable solutions at the code level.

QualificationsMinimum Requirements:

•  4+ years of experience as a Software Engineer / ML Engineer, working with ML platforms, tools, and scalable infrastructure
• Strong programming skills in Python, SQL, Scala, or Java
• Experience with Spark or similar distributed computing frameworks
• Hands-on experience with Airflow, MLflow, Kubernetes, and CI/CD pipelines
• Experience developing tools and utilities for data scientists, improving model training and deployment processes
• Ability to see the wide picture while also implementing low-level technical details efficiently
• Great interpersonal skills – a strong team player who collaborates effectively across teams
• Strong problem-solving skills and ability to work in fast-paced Agile environments

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience building AutoML platforms and ML workflow automation
• Experience with Kafka for high-speed data processing
• Familiarity with deep learning, LLMs, or feature stores
