We're looking for a Machine Learning Engineer to help us accomplish our mission of improving lives by learning from the experience of every person with cancer. Here's what you need to know about the role, our team and why Flatiron Health is the right next step in your career.
What You'll Do
At Flatiron, we're advancing the use of machine learning (ML) and artificial intelligence (AI) to transform cancer care and research. This year we are launching an AI Incubator program focused on exploring, prototyping, and scaling innovative AI solutions that address high-impact challenges across all of our business units.
As part of the AI Incubator, you will:

  • Join a nascent team, dedicated to using cutting edge technology to solve our hardest problems. With an 18-24 month time horizon and making use of emerging AI technologies, the team is focused on developing and de-risking game-changing products.
  • Rapidly prototype solutions, leveraging a mix of traditional ML approaches and cutting-edge technologies such as large language models (LLMs) and generative AI, to address complex problems in oncology and healthcare
  • Transition successful prototypes into scalable solutions, working closely with engineering, product, design, clinical, and business teams to ensure seamless integration into Flatiron's ecosystem.
  • Shape the future of Flatiron's AI strategy by surfacing unaddressed challenges, contributing to educational initiatives, and evolving our ways of working using AI.

Who You Are
You're a product-focused data professional, with experience in leveraging machine learning and AI to solve real-world problems. You're excited by the prospect of rolling up your sleeves to tackle meaningful problems each and every day. You're a kind, passionate and collaborative problem-solver who seeks and gives candid feedback, and values the chance to make an important impact.
In addition:

  • You have 3+ years of relevant working experience in a technical capacity, with a focus on ML. Prior experience with NLP is strongly preferred.
  • You have a strong background in applying data science methods to solve real-world problems and a fundamental grasp of the underlying statistical concepts of ML.
  • You have collaborated with other technical team members in a production development environment using formal version control, Python, and SQL.
  • You have practical experience in prompt engineering and evaluation of large language models (LLMs)
  • You have led cross-functional initiatives and excel at influencing decision-making without authority.

Optional:

  • You have proven experience with cloud-based services such as Amazon Web Services.
  • You have ML/AI experience in a healthcare setting.
  • You have an understanding of ethical AI principles, including bias mitigation, fairness, and transparency in AI systems.

Where you'll work
In this hybrid role, you'll have a defined work location that includes work from home and 3 office days set by you and your team. For more information on our approach to hybrid work, please visit the how we work website.
