Job summary:
The Learning Design team is responsible for developing and implementing innovative and effective online learning outcomes that reflects current best practice in this area. The Senior Learning Designer will lead pedagogical initiatives to enable and support the design and development of student-centred learning experiences. They will work across the team and within a pod to support the Lead Learning Designer. Specifically, the Senior Learning Designer will identify pedagogically sound, effective, innovative, and fit-for-purpose unit design that aligns learning and assessment activities. This role will work with academic and technical employees to create online learning programs that comply with agreed quality standards, whilst also ensuring that the online design optimizes the student learning experience.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide leadership, expert advice and support in online learning design and pedagogy across a variety of programs and courses.
- Work collaboratively with partner academic staff and others to create learning solutions that enhance student engagement.
- Design, develop and implement effective and innovative online learning techniques and strategies to create a best practice online student experience.
- Create learning experiences that are in line with OES’s quality standards, and that are innovative, engaging, active and learner centred.
- Collaborate with stakeholders (internal and external) to create resources and learning activities that support learning outcomes, within agreed timeframes.
- Partner with specialists to create online tools to deliver a best practice online student experience.
- Regularly evaluate and analyse online practices and delivery methods with respect to the achievement of student learning outcomes.
- Contribute to a professional culture and working environment that is based on the premise that engaged staff are essential to productivity and the success of the business.
- Autonomously design and manage the assessment process (e.g. work with the Program Coordinator and academic to negotiate best the outcome for all partner students, manage/design rubrics).
- Lead quality rebuild and new unit development.
- Lead the pod in the absence of the Lead Learning Designer
- Drive innovative learning design leading to improved results and retention.
- Demonstrate exceptional stakeholder management, both internal and external (e.g. negotiate and influence the delivery team regarding specific units, influence the pod, make decisions, delegate tasks, provide guidance on effective pedagogy).
- Initiate and drive change that operationalises process improvement and/or learning design across the organisation by leading a significant project.

You have:
Instructional Design
- Demonstrated knowledge and experience of instructional design pertaining to an online learning environment
- Demonstrated experience in the conversion of classroom-based learning content to an online learning environment
Tertiary
- An appropriate post graduate tertiary qualification.
- Demonstrated experience in tertiary teaching environments, including online, that addresses contemporary approaches to learner-centred, flexible education
- Demonstrated experience in online subject design and development in a tertiary setting
Technology
- Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of online technologies and Learning Management systems including, Canvas, Moodle and editing and design software
- Demonstrated experience in innovative design and delivery methods and tools for online teaching
Pedagogy
- An extensive understanding of adult learning principles
Communication, Teamwork and Project Management
- Extensive experience in managing several key projects simultaneously including demonstrated ability to consistently manage work to tight deadlines.
- Demonstrated high standard of interpersonal and communication skills including the ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a multi-disciplinary environment.
- High level skills in stakeholder management
- Proven ability to work proactively as part of a team and provide thought leadership and influence.
