The Position
As the direct scientific interface to our local external partners, this role is crucial for the success of creating a diversified external research pipeline and has the specific purpose of:
- Actively engage with the local external partners to identify adaptive partnership opportunities within breakthrough therapies.
- A ctively shape product concepts or breakthrough technologies to fit Novo Nordisk's demand for a diversified R&D pipeline and capability development.
- Collaborate with partners and Novo Nordisk R&D functions to advance product concepts.
- Actively connect and feed knowledge into the Global Novo Nordisk R&D organization.
- Actively orchestrate win-win solutions in complex stakeholder landscapes.
Relationships
The Senior Innovation Lead reports to the Vice President - Bio Innovation Hub heading up the Boston Unit. It is crucial that the holder of the role will have daily proactive collaboration with colleagues in the Boston organization, external partners including Biotech companies, Venture Capital, and Academic Institutions as well as all levels within the Global Drug Discovery, Global Research Technologies, and Global Device Research organizations.
The role thus functions as an interface between the Boston Unit and the external partners.
Essential Functions
- Actively engage with the local external partners to identify adaptive partnership opportunities within breakthrough therapies
- Actively drive scanning of the Boston innovation ecosystem for collaborative opportunities to co-create disruptive therapeutic concepts or technology projects
- Drive processes together with identified partners to generate early ideas/hypothesis for breakthrough innovations
- Proactively acquire knowledge outside of one's own core areas of expertise
- Validate opportunities and contribute to co-created research plans
- Develop and consolidate innovative partnership models and proposals for endorsement in relevant Novo Nordisk governance board
- Actively shape product concepts to fit Novo Nordisk's demand for a diversified R&D pipeline
- Anticipate internal and external business challenges and recommend improvements and solutions
- Solve unique and complex problems that have a broad impact on the business
- Collaborate with partners and R&D functions to shape and advance first-in-class product concepts or technology solutions
- Drive and review progress of co-created projects, targets and concepts
- Demonstrate ability to maintain state of the art competences and know-how within field of expertise
- Act as a facilitator between external innovation and internal strategic fit
- Actively connect and feed knowledge into the Global Novo Nordisk R&D organization
- Function as key link between Boston Unit and specific scientific experts within the global research and development organization
- Actively engage in learning opportunities in relation to the external partnerships and diverse external engagement models
Physical Requirements
0-10% overnight travel required.
Qualifications
- Education Level:
- MD or PhD required. Degree within chemistry or biotechnology area preferred with a broad understanding of biologics and emerging modalities
- Experience Level:
- 5+ years of experience required
- Specific job skills:
- Broad scientific knowledge within biologics and emerging modalities including advanced next generation therapeutic concepts. Experience within the cardiovascular and metabolic area will be a plus.
- Proven track record to ideate and advance new product concepts (Innovator mindset) - Required
- Specialized depth and/or breadth of expertise, and the ability to acquire new knowledge fast - Required
- Strong pharmaceutical industry knowledge and understanding - Required
- Significant experience to work across functions and organizational boundaries - Required
- Strong knowledge and skills relevant for Novo Nordisk cross-business understanding - Required
- Experience to design collaborative partnership models - Preferred
- Good business understanding across R&D - Preferred
- Strong intercultural understanding - Preferred
- Managerial experience (if applicable): No line managerial experience required. The incumbent will need to lead and drive initiatives through influence
- Project management skills are preferred
