The Senior HRIS Analyst provides technical expertise and support for the HRIS platform, specializing in a particular HRIS module, while also having a strong working knowledge of all other modules. This role will manage all technical HRIS tasks for their assigned module or modules including, but not limited to, designing enhancement opportunities, user accessibility, content updates, and quality clean-up. This role will work closely with HR Functional Analysts to understand user requirements to identify configuration and data changes that enable the strategy and day-to-day tasks of HR and university customers. This role will also identify enhancement opportunities and support technical projects to improve the end user’s HRIS experience and technical capability of the platform. The Senior HRIS Analyst should be a data-driven, analytical, highly organized self-starter and comfortable working in system administration. This role will help enable USC’s vision while championing USC’s culture and values.

Job Responsibilities

The candidate for the position of Senior HRIS Analyst will be responsible for:

  • Possessing an in-depth knowledge of HR systems, applications, and processes. Providing technical expertise in a specified Workday module, overseeing and executing end-to-end support, such as testing, configuration, enhancements and integrations.

  • Collaborating with HR Functional Analysts to understand end user HR system needs, configuring systems and/or platforms to enhance the user experience and streamline the use of HR systems across the university. Developing Human Centered Design (HCD) processes and approaches to deliver a broad range of sustainable business process solutions in Workday. Engaging in standard business analysis methodology, outlining problems, opportunities, and solutions, and identifying process-improvement efforts across the organization.

  • Delivering high-quality project analysis documentation (e.g., business requirements, scope matrices, use cases, future state proposals, user acceptance technology [UAT] plans) for Workday enhancement projects. Actively mitigating risk by owning tasks, resources, and changes. Enabling the release management process by anticipating risks and providing strategic recommendations for releases. Communicating and presenting recommended improvements and solutions to Workday business processes and decision-making rationale based on data insights.

  • Applying problem-solving techniques to provide Workday production support. Leading and/or supporting multiple, complex system enhancement and/or configuration projects with technical expertise, testing enhancements, modifications, and functionality to confirm system capabilities and specifications. Conducting long-term HCM related improvement projects to ensure compatibility with the company’s evolving business applications landscape and needs. Using technical knowledge and expertise to perform mass data updates, such as updates, exports, imports, and clean-ups. Translating technical terms into digestible information when meeting with non-technical stakeholders. 

  • Tracking and analyzing HR systems performance metrics, enhancement requests, and application issues. Maintaining currency on Workday enhancements, leveraging the latest industry knowledge to drive innovation and continuous improvement for the organization. Seeking opportunities for innovation and maximizing system functionality by continually developing skills, knowledge, and abilities. Utilizing leading practices to effectively anticipate, prioritize, analyze, and articulate problems, evaluate and document problem alternatives, manage constraints, and suggest interim and long-term solutions. Producing reports and making recommendations on how to enhance use of HR information system and modules.

  • Developing trusting, credible relationships from demonstrated ethical judgment, behavior, and practiced confidentiality related to HR system administration. Promoting an environment that fosters inclusive relationships and creating unbiased opportunities for contributions through ideas, words, and actions that uphold principles of the USC Code of Ethics.

  • Promoting contributions toward immediate and long-term goals. Providing clarity or realignment direction regarding scope, expectations, prioritization and other factors that influence goals. Demonstrating, through words, actions, and ideas, alignment to USC’s strategic plan and the HR organization’s strategic plan. Enabling the university to fulfill its academic and people missions through enhanced HR service.

  • Performing other related responsibilities as requested and when necessary. The university reserves the right to add or change duties at any time.

Preferred Qualifications

The ideal candidate for the position of Senior HRIS Analyst has the following qualifications:

  • Advanced degree in business administration, statistics, mathematics, computer science, computer information systems or another related field.

  • Seven or more years of experience in one or more of the following areas: information technology, HRIS administration, data analytics.

  • Experience in higher education.

  • Experience identifying workforce trends and strategic recommendations from workforce data and reports.

  • Experience presenting data and insights in a digestible format for a variety of stakeholders.

  • Excellent interpersonal skills, emotional intelligence, and relationship-building abilities.

  • Experience communicating and partnering with internal partners (HR Partners).

The annual base salary range for this position is $110,745.54 - $124,141.67. When extending an offer of employment, the University of Southern California considers factors such as (but not limited to) the scope and responsibilities of the position, the candidate’s work experience, education/training, key skills, internal peer equity, federal, state, and local laws, contractual stipulations, grant funding, as well as external market and organizational considerations.

Minimum Education: Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Statistics, Mathematics, Computer Science, Computer Information Systems or in related field(s); Combined experience/education as substitute for minimum education.
Minimum Experience: 7 years. 5 years in information technology, HRIS administration, and/or data analytics.
Minimum Skills: In-depth functional and configuration knowledge of Workday, including HR business processes (e.g., benefits, performance/talent, recruiting). Ability to generate Workday reports. Understanding of Workday HCM concepts (e.g., position management, organizations, hierarchy, supervisory organizations). Extensive record of delivering end-to-end, user-centered products, considering stakeholder requirements, user research, market analysis, data, customer feedback, and technical constraints or opportunities. Experience developing test strategies and plans, using widely accepted test methodologies or frameworks and proven analytical and problem-solving skills. Proven ability to facilitate collaboration across a broad audience of stakeholders and drive consensus in alignment with policies, processes, and procedures. Ability to provide strategy and recommendations on design and development methodologies, and leverage lessons learned from past experiences to drive continuous improvement of application and business process solutions. Extensive experience leading and executing technical support for Workday enhancement projects. Strong ability to identify opportunities for process improvement. Proven experience establishing strong working relationships with a wide range of team members and clients, utilizing clear and effective functional documentation skills. Excellent written and oral communication skills, with experience presenting technical topics in a business-oriented fashion to non-technical audiences. Experience working with functional groups, utilizing time management and prioritization skills to make efficient, logical decisions in rapidly changing environments. Ability to lead and mentor others and experience managing small- to medium-sized projects. Ability to support concurrent projects, prioritize competing assignments, and work under pressure with tight deadlines and frequent interruptions. Ability to use sound judgment in making decisions with minimal supervision. Ability to exercise discretion with confidential information. Ability to understand and work with large, complex systems. Experience with Microsoft Office.
