In Controls & Avionics Solutions, you will have the opportunity to help define and develop the next generation of avionics - whether it is fly-by-wire flight controls, full authority digital engine controls, or power management.
Summary
This position provides technical leadership in the resolution of complex electronic commodity issues in a design/manufacturing environment.
You will make impacts in the following ways:

  • Work closely with Product Development engineers and program teams to resolve materials issues in regard to obsolescence, technical changes, material shortages, failures in materials used in PWB fab and assembly, etc.
  • Reviewing, recommending and approving material selection for development programs.
  • Make informed material recommendations to Product Designers that meet application requirements and operations that meet production requirements.
  • Partner with suppliers to understand future offerings, their roadmaps and work with BAE product engineers to understand BAE's system needs for future designs.
  • Partner closely with BAE's Materials Authorization Board
  • Achieve multiple sources when possible.
  • Support sourcing and sourcing quality in acquisition and acceptance/rejection of parts.
  • Travel to vendor facilities (many international) for audits/investigations of issues is required.
  • Field questions at any time, from anywhere, on anything pertaining to connectors used in BAE Endicott's product lines.
  • Support Product Engineering SME to assure records are current for REACH and RoHs requirements

This role requires knowledge in materials used in the assembly of electronic components and commercial off the shelf mechanical components and Printed Wiring Boards. Materials such as resins, elastomers, metals, underfills, solder pastes, PWBA Coatings. Develop and maintain global material and performance specifications, evaluate, and approve supplier products to these specifications. Work with suppliers in the development and application of appropriate materials. Support material cost reduction initiatives. Maintain parts records in an internal database. This includes basic materials data and a variety of parameters, some of which require extensive research. Review, create, provide input, correct, and approve engineering drawings such as Vendor Item and Source Control drawings. Support the development of the bill of materials. Respond to Material Change Notifications and support the Materials Authorization Board.
Required Education, Experience, & Skills
Bachelor of Science in Material Science & Engineering, Materials Engineering, Chemical Engineering or related degree.
Education and Skills Required:

    Job Experience Required:
  • 5-10 years of Materials Engineering experience in defense, aerospace and or automotive materials is preferred.
  • Ability to manage complex data sets, develop conclusions and identify next steps.
  • Ability to work with multiple disciplines Quality, Engineering, Planning, Operations and Procurement.
  • Ability to understand the operating environment in which the material/systems function.
  • Ability to describe the compatibility of the basic materials within the manufacturing and processing environment
  • Develop and manage materials engineering documents
  • Profecient in using Microsoft Office applications

Pay Information
Full-Time Salary Range: $83900 - $142600
Please note: This range is based on our market pay structures. However, individual salaries are determined by a variety of factors including, but not limited to: business considerations, local market conditions, and internal equity, as well as candidate qualifications, such as skills, education, and experience.
