Role: Senior Full Stack UI Developer

Location: San Diego, CA (in-office)

Salary: $140,000-160,000 / yr + stock options, 401k matching, and other benefits.

Role Overview:

We’re looking for a full stack developer to join our User Interface (UI) team, delivering a class-leading UI that translates human intentions into ASV actions across the globe. We’re seeking someone excited to build a deep understanding of our vehicles’ capabilities, the vision behind them, and the realities that operators experience when using them. With this understanding and some exceptional technical skills, this person will make valuable contributions as part of a top-tier team.

Role Details:

This is a highly technical role. You’ll need to be adept at bending computers to your will and able to turn visions into code, often on tight timelines. Good listening skills and empathy are also foundational. You’ll need to put yourself in users’ shoes, controlling real and simulated vessels yourself and gathering feedback from our experienced operators. You’ll identify and eliminate customer pain-points and your own, building durable, performative code that makes life easier for new users and seasoned operators alike.

Day-to-day, you will:

  • Write durable code in React/JS that commands our fleet
  • Create intuitive interfaces in low-fidelity mockups, markup, and code
  • Process and chart large datasets from various payload sensors and external sources into actionable purpose-suited displays
  • Advance interface testing and quick feature deployment
  • Solve problems with code, clean layouts, and clear communication

About You:

You get excited about making cool things. Your coworkers and friends would likely say you are:

  • Curious, with a passion for continuous learning
  • Inventive, eager to try a new approach and not discouraged by failure
  • Visual, with a keen eye for spotting and fixing disharmony
  • Calm, remaining poised and effective
  • Gutsy, with a 99% likelihood of success when you set your mind to something

From a professional perspective, you have:

  • At least five years of Object-Oriented web software development experience, working in browser-based technology (JavaScript/UI Framework/CSS/HTML)
  • Experience iterating on large-codebase apps for mobile and desktop platforms
  • Demonstrated experience with databases, especially SQL databases
  • Familiarity with web software testing and deployment strategies
  • An address in San Diego (or you're willing to move here)

In addition, you may have experience with:

  • UX or graphic design
  • Charts/Leaflet/Mapping API
  • Maritime activities
  • Robotics

Life at Seasats:

Along with your salary, you’ll receive perks including:

  • Stock options
  • Competitive insurance (including a 99% employer-covered Gold HMO plan or other options)
  • 401k matching up to 4% of salary
  • Four free lunches per week
  • An employee activity fund
  • A pet-friendly office
  • Unlimited/Flex PTO

We’ll help you ramp up and will regularly take time to discuss what’s working and what’s not. We’re also big on personal freedoms: if you’re on top of your responsibilities and want the afternoon off to surf or spend time with friends and family, go for it! We have flexible hours, accommodating PTO, and a personable, high-achieving work culture. We want someone who’s excited to work hard and have fun in this environment.

Our values are listed below; we’re happy to explain them more during the interview process.

  • Get Stuff Done
  • Be Kind
  • Fight Entropy
  • Attack with Overwhelming Force
  • Ask More Questions
  • Lines, Not Dots

Hiring Notes:

If you decide to apply, you’ll be asked to provide a resume and answer a few screening questions. If we decide to move forward with your application, you can expect no more than 2-3 more rounds of virtual interviews before a final in-person interview.
