WHAT YOU WILL DO
onX is looking for a passionate Senior Full Stack Engineer who is excited about technology and the outdoors. You will join one of our Backcountry vertical teams focused on feature development and maintenance of our apps enabling human powered adventures, e.g. rock climbing, backpacking, hiking, cross-country skiing. This is a great opportunity to be a part of a dynamic growing company focused on making an impact on the business and our web products. This role will serve as a Senior Web Engineer at onX and will report to an Engineering Manager.
As an onX Senior Full Stack Engineer, your day to day responsibilities would look like:

- Build and maintain scalable services to support our products
- Write essential unit and integration tests
- Assist in deploying and managing services in Kubernetes
- Collaborate in architectural decisions, across teams
- Help define SLO for services and help monitor and maintain them
- Mentor other engineers in your team and across the organization!
LOCATION
onX has created a thriving distributed workforce community across several US locations. This position can be performed from an onX corporate office, “Basecamp,” or “Connection Hub.”
- Corporate Offices: onX was founded in Montana with offices in Missoula and Bozeman. If you prefer to work in an office at least part of the time this is a great option.
- Basecamps: Basecamps are established virtual workforce communities where a sizable number of distributed team members group for work, volunteering, socializing, and adventure.
- Our current Basecamps are located within a 90-mile radius of the following: Austin, TX; Charlotte, NC; Denver, CO; Kalispell, MT; Minneapolis, MN; Portland, OR; Salt Lake City, UT; and Seattle, WA.
- Connection Hubs: Connection Hub locations are smaller, emerging communities of distributed team members.
- Our current Connection Hubs are located within a 60-mile radius of the following: Boise, ID; Charleston, SC; Dallas/Fort Worth, TX; Phoenix, AZ; Richmond, VA; Spokane, WA; and Vermont.
WHAT YOU’LL BRING
- Bachelor’s degree in computer science or equivalent experience.
- 8 or more years of relevant industry experience as a senior software engineer.
- A shared passion for and ability to demonstrate onX’s Company Values.
- Permanent US work authorization is a condition of employment with onX.
- Recent experience with modern web frontend technologies, using TypeScript and any modern web framework (React, Vue, Svelte)
- Ability to traverse the full stack. You can trace an issue from the browser all the way to the service container.
- Expertise in building and debugging scalable distributed services using Golang or Elixir and GraphQL
ADDED BONUSES
Though not required, we would be thrilled to consider candidates with any of the following:
- Recent SSR experience via React/Next, Vue/Nuxt, Remix React Router v7 😁 and friends.
- Chops on the Google Cloud Platform, Kubernetes and Terraform.
- Any background in big data and the world of geospatial.
- Experienced and comfortable with working remotely as part of a distributed team.
COMPENSATION
onX is committed to compensating all employees fairly and equitably for their contributions. For this position, applicants can expect to make between $146,000 to $182,000 upon hire. The pay range will vary based on experience, skills, certifications, and education among other factors as required in the job description. In addition, full-time onX employees are eligible for a grant of common share options with a vesting schedule and a potential annual bonus of 10% based on company performance.
