Job Description SummaryThe Senior FLIGHT DECK Leader is responsible for transforming the Asheville CMC site’s results through the application of FLIGHT DECK fundamentals in both manufacturing and transactional environments. A FLIGHT DECK leader must have a passion for and a track record of driving transformational change. The Senior FLIGHT DECK Leader will focus on the Asheville CMC site, driving increased value in the way work is done across all functions and operational Business Units. This influential leader will be able to drive a change in operating mindset and ensure that FLIGHT DECK fundamentals are applied effectively in support of strategic and operational business plans.
The responsibilities of this position include being a team member for FLIGHT DECK deployment across the plant and developing FLIGHT DECK proficiency within the local team. This involves helping to develop and build integration in the plant through engineering, industrialization, and manufacturing teams, and establishing standards to improve local and overall CMC value chain processes. The site FLIGHT DECK leader must also coach and help deliver on the team’s Hoshin Kanri desired outcomes to support the GE9X production ramp.
Job Description
The Senior FLIGHT DECK Leader will serve as a FLIGHT DECK coach, facilitator, educator, advocate, and accountability partner within the Asheville CMC Plant to drive the understanding and application of FLIGHT DECK fundamentals and tools within systems, tools, and overall approach. The Senior FLIGHT DECK Leader will:
- Collaborate with other sites and the Composite Part Family FLIGHT DECK leaders to assess processes and practices as compared to lean company benchmarks, both internal and external. Assist in establishing and executing standard work across the Asheville CMC site.
- Coach process standardization and improvements within the Asheville plant aligning all activity to impact Safety, Quality, Delivery and Cost
- Create business unit alignment within the plant through kaizen events and value stream analysis to visualize the information flows and system transactions to identify and build action plans to radically transform the non-value-add to value-add ratio for improving productivity and reducing leadtime.
- Able to lead through influence, assist teams in establishing daily, weekly, and monthly operating systems and routines with robust escalation systems while also developing leaders as FLIGHT DECK coaches and practitioners’ business wide to drive incremental and breakthrough improvement year over year.
Essential Responsibilities:
- Coach, drive and lead FLIGHT DECK behaviors, principles, and tools within the Asheville CMC organization.
- Drive cultural transformation resulting in step-changes in operational business performance.
- Facilitate and oversee Kaizen events to achieve process improvements and enhance Safety, Quality, Delivery, Cost and Cash.
- Coach plant leadership team on FLIGHT DECK fundamentals and management system to drive Customer and shareholder outcomes.
- Analyze data to identify trends, root causes, and opportunities for process improvement.
- Foster a culture of continuous improvement and FLIGHT DECK thinking within the Asheville plant.
- Develop and maintain strong relationships with key stakeholders to ensure optimal performance.
- Define, develop, and publish business improvement process standards to reflect best practice.
Minimum Qualifications/ Requirements:
- Bachelor’s Degree accredited college or university
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in a program or project leadership role within the operating environment with proven impact transforming SQDC.
- Experience working within lean functions in a matrixed environment and working with cross functional teams.
- 2+ years of prior people leadership experience and coaching and leading teams. This role will have up to 8 direct reports.
Desired Characteristics and Experience
- Preferred Degree: Bachelor of Science in Engineering, operations, supply chain, engineering or Lean management from an accredited University or College
- Strong understanding of the FLIGHT DECK fundamentals (GE Aerospace Lean Operating Model) and application of tools.
- Effective team building and project management ability.
- Strong oral and written communication skills
- Strong interpersonal and leadership skill
- Strong influencing skills
- Highly collaborative person, influential leader, comfortable with conflict and debate normally associated with change.
