JOB SUMMARY:
As a Senior Field Application Engineer, you will play an essential role in the development of innovative electromechanical modules and systems. You’ll work collaboratively with internal and external customers, suppliers, and cross-functional teams to transform customer technical requirements into effective solutions. This position actively contributes to Stoneridge’s mission of creating accessible and sustainable mobility solutions, supporting diversity and inclusivity by welcoming different perspectives and experiences to achieve product excellence. As a Senior Field Application Engineer, you will ensure effective, inclusive, and efficient design processes are upheld throughout the project lifecycle.
PRINCIPLE RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Provide interface within Project or Program with respect to the execution for the Mechanical components and subsystems as allocated.
- Act as a primary contact for project or program interfaces related to the execution of mechanical components and subsystems.
- Lead or participate in diverse and inclusive product design teams, driving creative solutions in response to project complexity and timeline needs.
- Support cross-functional teams and contribute to problem-solving initiatives within the design process, ensuring solutions are inclusive and accessible.
- Deliver product designs that meet technical requirements for mechanical components, translating diverse customer needs into clear deliverables.
- Foster evidence-based, data-driven decision-making, with an emphasis on shared accountability and diverse perspectives.
- Actively identify and escalate risks, emphasizing proactive approaches that include a range of viewpoints and ideas.
- Demonstrate commitment to “on-time execution” while upholding the company’s values of respect and teamwork.
- Drive resolution using structured, inclusive problem-solving methods.
- Maintain a strong understanding of metrics and targets, including phase deliverable timing, cost and non-recurring expenses (NRE) variances, dimensional and performance compliance, and impact on launch quality.
- Encourage collaboration and a sense of urgency to resolve project roadblocks, supporting all team members' contributions.
EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND KNOWLEDGE:
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, or a closely related field, required. Master’s degree preferred.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in mechanical systems product development.
- Proven experience in designing plastic injection molding parts, sheet metal, lighting principles, LEDs, display technologies, and materials like PCB, glass, and gaskets.
- Preferred experience in diverse manufacturing techniques, such as binder-jet and DLS.
- Familiarity with automotive or truck systems, processes, and relevant nomenclature.
- Expertise in dimensional management methods, such as tolerance analysis, RSS, MRSS, and GD&T.
- Proficiency in Six Sigma or statistical methodologies, including Monte Carlo simulations, comparison tests, standard deviation, and Cpk metrics.
- Proficient with CAD software, NX (preferred), and other design, assembly, and drafting tools.
- Familiarity with simulation (CAE) and verification tools like FEA and thermal management tools.
- Exceptional communication and presentation skills, comfortable presenting ideas to both internal and external customers.
- Fluent in English; Spanish fluency is highly desirable.
- Skilled in Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint. Familiarity with Visio, Project, or Planview is a plus.
