Overview
You will join a collegial team that includes epidemiologists, biostatisticians, programmers, data managers, and operations staff. Our epidemiologists play a critical role in study design, protocol and analysis plans, data analysis, and manuscript development for research studies that focus on significant medical and public health problems. The position offers opportunities for leadership, professional development, innovation, collaboration across disciplines, and publication.
Responsibilities:
- Lead and manage all aspects of epidemiologic research study design and implementation through completion with minimal oversight. This includes developing data collection tools, executing complex analyses, making analytic decisions, programming, developing protocols, literature reviews, and general data cleaning and preparation
- Lead and collaborate with colleagues and clients on the design, implementation, and management of complex epidemiologic and clinical research studies with minimal oversight
- Lead and/or contribute to the creation of statistical analysis plans (SAPs)with minimal oversight
- Learn and apply a range of novel methods and subject matter expertise to design and execute epidemiologic studies under minimal guidance, including research on innovative approaches
- Produce graphical and tabular output for scientific communication and manuscripts using SAS, R, and other software
- Provide technical oversight to staff epidemiologists, data management staff, and study operations staff
- Prepare oral and written scientific communications, including scientific presentations, manuscripts, technical reports, study protocols, and proposals with minimal oversight
- Actively participate in external science-based associations and organizations through publication of manuscripts, presentations, and other activities
- Convey research concepts and results to a variety of audiences, including clients from various professional backgrounds
- Contribute technical content and writing to DLH business development proposals
- Potential to grow with opportunities for project and analysis leadership, skill expansion, and publications
Qualifications:
- MS + 6 yrs related experience, or PhD +/- postdoc+3 yrs experience
- Highly experienced with advanced epidemiologic study design and analysis methods
- Ability to design and execute all aspects of epidemiologic research including data collection, advanced statistical analysis, and reporting research results
- Career appropriate record of peer reviewed publications, including first-author publications
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to convey complex epidemiological concepts to clients and diverse audiences
- Proficiency in R or SAS, knowledge of other statistical programming languages a plus.
- Drive to learn new methodologic approaches, software languages, or other skills as needed
- Ability to collaborate well within a matrixed team environment and to work independently within a multi-disciplinary team of scientists, staff, and clients
- Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously in a fast paced, highly collaborative environment
- Due to contractual obligations, U.S. Citizenship is required.
Desired Skills:
- Experience working on federal government research projects or with agencies such as CDC, NIH, or HHS.
- The ability to coordinate, analyze, and interpret longitudinal data to support public health research
- Familiarity with REDCap, Tableau, R Shiny, Flask, Dash, React, or Power BI tools for data visualization and management.
- Knowledge of federal data privacy and security regulations, including HIPAA and FISMA.
- Experience with reproducible research tools like Markdown and Jupyter, as well as version control tools like Git.
Basic Compensation: $115,000 - $130,000 yearly salary
The salary offered within this range will be based on the selected candidates’ skills, experience, education, market data, and internal parity. DLH may offer other rewards that may include performance incentives and program-specific awards. An applicant’s salary history will not be used to determine compensation.
