Generate:Biomedicines was founded in 2018 by Flagship Pioneering and has received over $700 million in funding, providing the resources to rapidly scale the organization. The Company has offices in Somerville and Andover, Massachusetts with 300+ employees.
The Role:
Generate is seeking a Senior Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) Specialist to support its Andover and Somerville Locations. Reporting to the Senior Manager of EHS, the Senior EHS Specialist will be responsible for developing safety policies, procedures, and programs that ensure compliance with local, state, and federal regulations.
Here's how you will contribute:
- Coordinate site activities with waste management, PPE and training suppliers and contractors.
- Assist with the development and implementation of written EHS programs.
- Maintain the sites’ SDS libraries in an online database system.
- Partner with the safety committee to coordinate site inspections and track corrective actions.
- Conduct risk assessments of work activities involving biological, chemical and physical hazards.
- Investigate accidents and incidents in the workplace to identify the root cause and develop strategies to prevent future incidents.
- Assist with completing EHS permit applications and submittals.
- Conduct EHS training, including, new employee orientation.
- Participate on the site safety and Institutional Biosafety Committees.
- Participate on the emergency response team, including, performing inspections of emergency equipment, procedure updates, conducting evacuation drills and organizing and leading training
The Ideal Candidate will have:
- Bachelor’s degree in environmental, Occupational Safety and Health, or related field required.
- Minimum of 3 to 5 years of EHS experience working for a bio/pharma company.
- Strong working knowledge of proper storage and handling of various types of lab chemicals and hazardous products
- Experience in Biosafety working with BSL-1, BSL-2, BBP and other potentially infectious agents.
- Strong organizational skills, with the ability to maintain accurate records.
- Extensive knowledge of environmental regulations and policies.
- Experience authoring and updating SOPs.
