We’re looking for an Engineering Manager to lead engineering and drive delivery.
This role will lead technical delivery, solutioning, platform architecture and reliability. You will be responsible for leading and managing team members in Australia while overseeing global delivery execution.
The Role
As the Engineering Manager, you will play a critical role in driving execution, ensuring smooth delivery, and maintaining engineering excellence. You’ll be responsible for managing team workflows, optimising delivery processes, and ensuring adherence to compliance standards.
You will play a pivotal part in shaping the future of our technology by leading and mentoring a high-performing engineering team, driving process improvements, and ensuring the scalability and security of our global SaaS product. You can write code, but you also understand business outcomes and trade-offs, and can ensure technical decisions align with strategic priorities.
You will also be accountable for resourcing decisions—ensuring the right people are in the right roles and making changes where necessary for a high-performing team.
A key part of this role will be partnering closely with Senior Product Managers to align engineering efforts with customer commitments and feedback, ensuring that development efforts deliver the biggest impact for the business. You will be expected to contribute to strategic decision-making about where to invest resources for maximum return.
Key Responsibilities
Delivery & Execution
- Own and drive engineering delivery, ensuring teams execute against priorities effectively.
- Improve delivery rituals—stand-ups, sprint planning, retrospectives, backlog refinement, and release planning.
- Identify and remove blockers to keep teams moving forward.
- Work closely with Senior Product Managers to align engineering efforts with customer commitments and priorities.
- Ensure projects are delivered on time and within scope. Clarity of communication and collaboration across the business is critical.
- Monitor and report on delivery metrics each sprint, identifying areas for improvement.
- Implement a robust risk management framework, ensuring proactive identification and mitigation of potential roadblocks and challenges.
Engineering Leadership & Compliance
- Support teams in making technical decisions that balance speed, scalability, and security, working with product peers.
- Work with engineers to ensure system reliability across platform.
- Drive initiatives to improve development velocity and operational efficiency.
- Ensure compliance with standards such as PCI DSS and SOC2, leading technical streams.
Team Management
- Lead a team of engineers in Australia, providing guidance, mentorship, personal development and performance management.
- Ensure effective resource allocation across all projects, adjusting as needed.
- Make hiring and replacement decisions to maintain a high-performing team.
- Develop and retain top engineering talent through coaching and structured feedback.
- Create an environment where engineers thrive, stay engaged, and continuously improve in cross-functional teams.
- Model behaviours of working collaboratively and promoting the trio (product, design and engineering) mindset.
Cross-Team & Global Collaboration
- Work across time zones (particularly with Europe) to ensure smooth collaboration.
- Develop async-friendly workflows to support distributed teams.
- Partner with stakeholders across Product, Engineering, and Support teams to drive outcomes.
What We’re Looking For
- Experience in engineering and delivery management, balancing technical leadership with execution.
- Strong background in software engineering, with experience in system architecture, security, and compliance (knowledge of PCI DSS and SOC2 is a plus).
- Proven track record of driving delivery in agile environments.
- Ability to manage team performance, including hiring, coaching, and making tough decisions when needed.
- Experience optimizing delivery processes and improving team efficiency.
- Strong collaboration skills, with experience working closely with Product teams to prioritize customer commitments and maximize impact.
- Excellent strategic thinking skills, with the ability to assess engineering investments and ensure the best return for the business.
- Comfortable working across multiple time zones, particularly Europe.
