Role and Responsibilities
The Senior iOS Engineer, based in Auckland, New Zealand, will play a crucial role in leading the development and deployment of iOS applications. This individual will work closely with cross-functional teams, including product managers, designers, and engineers, to define and implement innovative solutions that align with business and client objectives. They will drive the development of scalable and high-performing iOS applications while ensuring adherence to coding standards and best practices. Additionally, the engineer will act as a mentor, providing guidance and support to junior and mid-level developers and fostering a culture of continuous learning and improvement within the team.
A key aspect of this role involves close collaboration with clients, such as Seven and Neon, to understand their unique requirements and deliver tailored solutions. Being physically present in Auckland will facilitate more assertive communication and engagement, enabling better project alignment and faster issue resolution. The engineer will actively participate in Agile development processes, contributing to sprint planning, backlog grooming, and delivering high-quality software. They will also be responsible for conducting regular code reviews, implementing testing strategies, and ensuring the highest application performance and reliability standards.
Keeping up with emerging iOS development trends and technologies is crucial to this role, ensuring our applications remain competitive and future-ready. The Senior iOS Engineer will leverage their expertise to explore new tools, frameworks, and methodologies that can enhance the development process. Given the global nature of our operations, flexibility to collaborate across time zones and provide real-time support to offshore teams when necessary will also be required.

Required Qualifications
The ideal candidate for the Senior iOS Engineer position should have extensive experience in developing and maintaining iOS applications using Swift and Objective-C. A strong background in modern iOS development frameworks, such as SwiftUI, UIKit, and CoreData, is essential. The candidate should also have a proven track record of leading engineering teams, mentoring junior developers, and driving the adoption of best practices to ensure high-quality software delivery.
In addition to iOS expertise, some experience with Android development would be highly valued, as it provides a broader understanding of cross-platform development challenges and enhances the candidate’s ability to collaborate effectively in a multi-platform environment. Familiarity with Android development frameworks such as Kotlin, Jetpack Compose, or Android SDK would be considered an asset.
Strong client-facing experience is crucial, with the ability to understand client requirements, provide technical recommendations, and deliver solutions that align with business goals. The candidate should demonstrate proficiency in Agile development methodologies, including sprint planning, backlog management, and iterative delivery.
Excellent problem-solving skills and a strategic mindset are essential to navigate complex technical challenges and drive continuous improvement. The candidate must possess strong communication skills, both verbal and written, to collaborate effectively with internal teams and external stakeholders. A proactive approach to professional development and staying current with the latest trends in mobile development is highly desirable.
