JOB SUMMARY

GeneDx, the world's leading genomics diagnostics company, is seeking a Head of Scalable Genetics to reimagine the clinical information gathering, interpretation, and reporting processes that drive our rare disease testing products. The individual in this role will be charged with increasing the quality, reproducibility, and scalability of whole exome and whole genome clinical reporting processes.

You will bring your expertise in current best practices for reporting workflow processes, people, and tools.

The goal is to design and implement a fully automated reporting workflow at GeneDx that reduces human intervention, delays in processing handoffs, and subjectivity while still delivering best in class quality and customer experience.

As the Head of Scalable Genetics, you will lead a multidisciplinary team of product leads, data scientists, and engineers. Together and in partnership with Operations leaders, you will conceive, build, train, and deploy a suite of modular tools that combine to deliver a fully automated interpretation workflow.

MAJOR DUTIES AND REPONSIBILITIES

  • Deep experience in a high-volume CLIA/CAP clinical reporting environment, accelerated by efficient and high-quality software tools.
  • Demonstrated understanding of human clinical genetics, the state of the industry, and strong opinions about how to scale reporting to serve more patients.
  • Experience and understanding of the hard-to-do components of the human genome (eg. repetitive / mobile elements, pseudogenes, low complexity regions). Experience with the molecular and bioinformatic techniques necessary to call variation and report from these regions.
  • Conceptual mastery of machine learning and other AI applications, and these tools have been used to accelerate complex human-centric processes.
  • Demonstrated management of a team specifying the development of software products.
  • Exceptional communication skills, with demonstrated ability to influence and drive change cross-functionally.
  • Design and implement a suite of tools that filter, apply evidence, recommend confirmation, write/place report text, and facilitate efficient medical director sign out.
  • Work with other product and technical leaders in the organization to leverage existing GeneDx platform technologies where possible, in combination with novel computational approaches when appropriate.

With over 20 years of expertise in diagnosing rare disorders and diseases, and pioneering work in the identification of new disease-causing genes, our commitment to genetic disease detection, discovery, and diagnosis is based on sound science and is focused on enhancing patient care.

Experts in what matters most.

With hundreds of genetic counselors, MD/PhD scientists, and clinical and molecular genomics specialists on staff, we are the industry’s genetic testing experts and proud of it. We share the same goal as healthcare providers, patients, and families: to provide clear, accurate, and meaningful answers we all can trust.

SEQUENCING HAS THE POWER TO SOLVE DIAGNOSTIC CHALLENGES.

From sequencing to reporting and beyond, our technical and clinical experts are providing guidance every step of the way:

TECHNICAL EXPERTISE

  • High-quality testing: Our laboratory is CLIA certified and CAP accredited and most of our tests are also New York State approved.
  • Advanced detection: By interrogating genes for complex variants, we can identify the underlying causes of conditions that may otherwise be missed.

CLINICAL EXPERTISE

  • Thorough analysis: We classify variants according to our custom adaptation of the most recent guidelines. We then leverage our rich internal database for additional interpretation evidence.
  • Customized care: Our experts review all test results and write reports in a clear, concise, and personalized way. We also include information for research studies in specific clinical situations.
  • Impactful discovery: Our researchers continue working to find answers even after testing is complete. Through both internal research efforts and global collaborations, we have identified and published hundreds of new disease-gene relationships and developed novel tools for genomic data analysis. These efforts ultimately deliver more diagnostic findings to individuals.
