Overview: As a Senior Database Administrator (DBA), you will work to optimize the performance of Litera’s critical SaaS product databases and participate in making decisions about data flow patterns and database architecture. You will review database code and suggest improvements that align with industry best practices while still satisfying the intended business use case. This position requires a high degree of professional judgment and aptitude in troubleshooting issues, as well as balancing database workload performance with cost considerations
Key Responsibilities:
- Subject matter expert (SME) of PostgreSQL databases (cloud & on-premises)
- Participate in a 24x7 major incident on-call rotation
- Perform root cause analysis for major outages and incidents
- Participate in cross-functional teams to resolve critical production issues
- Perform database tuning and maintenance activities
- Analyze databases to ensure optimal performance and sizing
- Debug database code and resolve complex data problems
- Design new database schemas and data ingest strategies
- Document database design models, configurations, and processes
- Implement advanced security standards (row-level security & data encryption)
- Automate arduous database tasks
- Implement backup and recovery solutions
- Participate in business continuity and disaster recovery preparedness events
- Keep current on the latest database administration trends and practices
- Be a technical leader and respected team member
Qualifications:
- 5+ years of experience as a Database Administrator
- Minimum 5 years working primarily with PostgreSQL
- Experience writing queries and debugging database code
- Experience working with cloud database solutions
- Competent with backup and recovery solutions
- Understanding of ERDs and ability to build physical schemas from logical designs
- Solid database engine tuning abilities
- Experience or knowledge of database partitioning strategies
- Discernment for potential data loss
- Strong problem-solving skills and reverse engineering discipline
- Ability to simplify and explain complex issues
- Unafraid of ambiguity
- Recognize the importance of urgency
- Able to maintain composure during pressure conditions
Bonus Qualifications:
- Experience with data modeling
- Experience with master data management (MDM)
- Experience developing or using data dictionaries
- Experience working with SaaS product
- Experience working in highly regulated environments (SOX, HIPAA, PCI)
- Experience with software development
- Background in security & privacy compliance
