Job Description
We are seeking a motivated and experienced Senior Data Platform Engineer (f/m/d) to strengthen our growing Data Platform Team. You will play a key role in building and operating our next-generation data ecosystem powered by Microsoft Fabric and OneLake, alongside supporting our existing data platform based on Oracle, MinIO and StorageGRID. This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to the future of our data platform—scalable, cloud-native, and tightly integrated with the Microsoft stack.
As a Senior Data Platform Engineer (f/m/d) you will be responsible for the following tasks:
- Collaborate with Product Owners, Data & IT Architects, Data Engineers, and Software/Application Engineers to design and evolve our Data Platform, including DWH, Data Lake, Knowledge Graph, and the new platform based on Microsoft Fabric.
- Drive the adoption and integration of Microsoft Fabric and OneLake across the organization to unify data experiences in Power BI, Synapse, and Data Factory.
- Design and maintain data models and pipelines in Microsoft Fabric for self-service analytics, governed data access, and centralized lakehouse storage via OneLake.
- Maintain, automate, and operate data pipelines and interfaces, focusing on performance, scalability, and monitoring.
- Develop and operate the DevOps platform, supporting CI/CD pipelines and infrastructure automation for data solutions.
- Monitor and optimize data platform health using system metrics, usage tracking, and proactive alerting.
- Contribute to data governance, cataloging, and security within Microsoft Fabric and the broader platform landscape.
- Champion platform modernization, identifying use cases and migration paths to Microsoft Fabric and OneLake.
- Mentor junior engineers, share knowledge, and lead with a continuous improvement mindset.
Requirements
Your profile:
- A Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field
- Business fluency in English (spoken and written); proficiency in German is a plus
- Solid experience in Data Platform Engineering, including ETL processes, data pipelines, data warehousing, data lakes, and business intelligence solutions
- Proficiency in working with relational databases, as well as developing and optimizing ETL code (e.g., Oracle, SQL Server)
- Strong programming skills in SQL, PL/SQL, T-SQL, shell scripting, and Python
- Hands-on experience with event streaming platforms such as Apache Kafka
- Strong understanding of observability practices (monitoring, logging, alerting) to ensure reliable and maintainable data solutions
- Experience in solution delivery, including release processes, deployment pipelines, and coordination with stakeholders
