As a Senior Data Engineer in the Veterinary Software organization, you will serve as a leader for data modeling and development supporting commercial data analytics As a data subject matter expert, you will support your tech lead to deliver reporting data solutions, designing architectures to capture, integrate, organize, centralize, and maintain data.

In this role you will be a “manager-doer” – diving into complex / evolving data to uncover insight using SQL and other languages, while also managing direct reports. 

 

In this Role: 

  • You will develop and maintain reporting platform technical architecture.  

  • You will develop knowledge of IDEXX data systems and processes, recommending and developing new data sets for analysis. 

  • You will collaborate with technology and management teams to define data standards, ensuring data is stored, consumed, integrated, and managed effectively across the organization.  

  • You will ensure data accuracy, accessibility, and system performance through continuous monitoring and refinement.  

  • You will ensure data interoperability across the reporting platform.  

  • You will promote the concept of data integrity and strategic value across the organization. 

  • You will collaborate across the engineering organization to develop strategies that align with VetSoft application development. 

  • You will work with data source systems and target systems to identify data issues and data gaps.  

  • You will work with VetSoft and IDEXX teams, contributing to the VetSoft metadata model, delivering standardization of data that has come from a range of different sources. 

 

What do you need to succeed?  

  • Experience in quantitative analysis, problem solving, and data visualization.  

  • Data Architecture Expertise: Strong knowledge of designing and implementing scalable data models, schemas, and data pipelines.  

  • Experience with Hadoop, Spark, Kafka, or similar frameworks.  

  • Proficiency in AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud, including services like Redshift, BigQuery, or Snowflake.  

  • Expertise in relational (MySQL, PostgreSQL) and NoSQL (MongoDB, Cassandra) databases.  

  • Hands-on experience with tools like Informatica, Talend, or AWS Glue.  

  • Familiarity with compliance standards such as GDPR, HIPAA, and best practices for data security and quality.  

  • Experience with principles and practices related to cloud technologies.  

  • Previous experience in SaaS environment  

  • Knowledge of cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud.  

  • Systems and/or software design. 

  • Familiarity with modern web technologies (such as React), and cloud backend technologies (such as GoLang, Typescript, Python, .NET,  Java). 

  • Agile processes including Scrum, Kanban, and/or others. 

  • 5+ years of experience working with in big data and analytics 

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and experience required.
