ABOUT THIS ROLE

We are looking for a Senior Data Engineer to join our growing team. Apex is recognized for disrupting the financial services industry, enabling fintech standouts like Stash, Webull and Betterment. You will join the Margins team and play an instrumental role in building and optimizing data solutions that power our margins platform, enabling precise, performant, and scalable systems. The Margins team is at the heart of Apex’s mission to deliver innovative, end-to-end clearing and custody solutions. As a Senior Data Engineer, you will leverage your expertise in SQL, database design, Python, and modern data practices to build cutting-edge data applications. You will play a critical part in integrating and managing diverse datasets, ensuring seamless data operations for the team, and driving innovation. The ideal candidate is one that integrates well within a team and strives for collaborative, modern cloud engineering and team practices, acting as a multiplier for the team day to day. 

Duties/Responsibilities

• Develop, test, and maintain microservice service architectures, pipelines, data stores, and other cloud systems for the Apex data layer and APIs.

• Collaborate and solve complex engineering problems, and solve them for scale with the autonomy to drive technical directions and decisions.

• Collaborate with engineers, product managers, clients, and other stakeholders to understand client & business problems and requirements and work towards solutions. 

• Create, and own scalable cloud services and pipelines for our various data-driven service domains.

• Manage, optimize, and improve existing cloud data platform solutions for performance, availability, scaling etc. 

• Write self-documenting and well-tested code with an emphasis on sustainable devSecOps practices.

• Work as a part of a productive development team that puts an emphasis on code quality, peer reviews, documentation and strong modern engineering practices. 

Education and/or Experience

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or related technical field or (equivalent work experience) required

• Experience in software development within a data domain (e.g. data, data engineering, analytics) 

• 5+ years of experience in cloud engineering, particularly around; microservices, scalability and best practices, build and implementation, data technologies and services.

• 3+ years of experience in infrastructure, modern IaC (e.g. Terraform), cloud service deployment and management, and modern CI/CD 

• Experience working with modern database systems (e.g. Bigquery, Postgres, AlloyDb, Redis, etc)

• Experience working with data orchestration tools like Airflow to schedule, automate, and monitor workflows.

• Experience in the financial industry preferred

Required Skills/Abilities 

• Advanced proficiency in SQL for creating and optimizing queries, schemas, and relational database systems.

• Proficient in building data applications with Python and libraries such as Pandas, PySpark, and SQLAlchemy.

• Knowledge of data modeling and transformation tools such as DBT (Data Build Tool).

• Strong expertise in data fusion—integrating and processing datasets from diverse sources to drive actionable insights.

• Familiarity with Datastream for real-time or near-real-time data replication across systems.

• Understanding of data orchestration and monitoring, with experience in troubleshooting and performance optimization.

• Understanding of event driven, real-time data pipelines, data replication, data streaming. 

• Ability to interpret technical design documents to build solutions.

• Strong communication skills and the ability to communicate well at all levels to varied stakeholders.

• Strong proficiency in relevant programming language(s) for building and deploying cloud (micro)services

• Adaptability to learn new technologies/systems/languages as needed day to day.

Salary Range

$123,000-$153,750

The annual base salary range for this position is noted above. Exact compensation offered may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, experience, and office location.
