At Carrum, we are transforming how we pay for, deliver and experience healthcare. If you are passionate about changing healthcare and want to finally get rid of surprise bills, poor quality, and high prices, while thriving in an entrepreneurial, cutting-edge environment, we would love to connect with you.
In 2014 Carrum reinvented the Centers of Excellence (COE) category in digital health. Today, 95% of the US population lives within 50 miles of a Carrum COE and our providers rank in the top 10% nationally. Our team’s execution has been recognized by the venture community and we’ve raised more than $96M in aggregate from investors like OMERS, Tiger Global Management and Wildcat Ventures. Our impact has been externally proven in a 2021 RAND Corporation study and featured as a Harvard Business School (HBS) case study.
Our growing Data Engineering and Operations team is looking for a Senior Data Engineer with a strong combination of technical and analytical skills, creativity and curiosity, and an independent, strategic approach to problem-solving. The ideal candidate is a team player who has supported and expanded maintainable, scalable data products and is comfortable with shifting task prioritization in a high-growth mode start-up. This position will initially focus on supporting ingestion implementations and data exports, with the opportunity and expectation of expanding into the rest of our data engineering stack (primarily Python jobs running within docker via AWS batch jobs and Lambda functions). You will keep the data flowing, become a subject matter expert within the organization for the data we ingest, and be part of creating the data foundation that is critical to our mission.
This is a full time position, the salary range for this role is $160,000 - $180,000 depending on level of experience and geographic location.
You’re excited about this opportunity because you will…
- Support creative solutions to evolving challenges around data ingestion, processing, and modeling.
- Master the ins and outs of our healthcare datasets, serving as subject matter expert for the technical and business requirements of ingesting medical claims and insurance eligibility.
- Collaborate closely with internal and external stakeholders to properly understand data needs.
- Support pipelines that power analytics, machine learning, and data products.
- Partner with the Client Success and Partnerships teams on new ingestion implementations and investigate questions from external stakeholders related to data engineering processes and products.
- Understand HIPAA compliance and support Carrum’s success in this area.
- Participate early in the development of a robust data foundation and infrastructure, collaborating on quality control, ETL, build pipelines, internal reporting systems, and self-service tools as the organization grows.
- Have a direct impact on the technical direction and product roadmap of the company.
We’re excited about you because you have…
- 10+ years professional experience in healthcare data engineering and analytics, including the knack of troubleshooting imperfect data.
- Previously supported data ingestion and analytics processes while partnering with internal and external stakeholders.
- Proficiency with a variety of data engineering technology and a proven ability to learn new tools. We’re specifically looking for someone who can dive into SQL, is comfortable with Python, and is willing to expand into docker and Bash as the team’s needs evolve. Experience with AWS or Azure compute jobs is a plus.
- A history of understanding and supporting systems with an approach centered on data quality and scalability.
- An appreciation for the challenges and optimizations relevant to an early-stage start-up environment.
- Interpersonal skills – you don’t have a hard time being empathetic, courteous, and collaborative.
- Experience in the healthcare space, particularly with the problems inherent in ingesting these data sets.
