Overview:
Mastercard is seeking a Senior Counsel to join our global law team supporting Mastercard Technology focused on driving innovative legal coverage for important technology initiatives and operations while ensuring security is at the heart of everything we do. The team works closely with partners across Mastercard in technology, operations, data privacy, regulatory, public policy, product and regional teams, as well as other colleagues in the law department. This front-line position will provide industry-informed information security legal expertise and Mastercard specific corporate security legal advice in support of contracts, product development and execution, and compliance for the global commercialization of the Recorded Future products and services. The person selected will serve as a cybersecurity industry legal subject matter expert to provide critical legal advice to issues with an information security nexus such as cyber threat intelligence (CTI) collection, sharing, and usage.
The position will be based in either Mastercard’s St. Louis Tech Hub or Arlington Tech Hub, and will report to Senior Managing Counsel, Corporate Security.
Role:
Responsible for providing high quality, specialized and practical cybersecurity legal advice to assigned
business units and markets, providing comprehensive, end-to-end legal support by facilitating thoughtful
risk-taking to enable Mastercard to deliver on strategy.
Act as the principal day-to-day corporate security legal advisor for clients, including partnering with the business and legal specialists to implement applicable laws and regulations that impact cyber and information security,
facilitate commercial operations and activities.
Communicate changes in cybersecurity laws and regulations, train and educate clients on risks, legal
consequences, and alternative actions, as needed.
Partner with legal specialists and outside counsel to coordinate research, investigate legal issues, and
ensure compliance with cybersecurity regulations.
Support engagements with regulators, governments and law enforcement.
Coach and mentor others while serving as a technology and cybersecurity legal expert, often
leading cross-functional strategic initiatives and sharing legal knowledge for a business and/or market.
Provide corporate security legal perspective in support of the commercialization and sales efforts of the regional and Recorded Future and Security Solutions product and sales teams.
Advise on and provide corporate security related input on government/commercial legal, regulatory, reputational, and liability matters for new and existing products.
Provide subject matter expertise with respect to cybersecurity laws and product development related to Recorded Future product sales as well as Mastercard product/ sales synergies.
Research cybersecurity law, in particular related to government cyber sales, conduct jurisdictional reviews, and collaborate with subject matter experts on data privacy, cryptocurrency, regulatory, IP, and other issues.
Collaborate with team members on product development and go-to-market implementation.
All About You:
Law degree from an established and reputable university.
Demonstrated cybersecurity background in government, law firm or in-house.
Demonstrated a high level of expertise within the cybersecurity discipline.
General understanding of regulatory environment, government and law enforcement as it relates to
cyber operations, investigations, computer crimes, and cyber threat reporting.
Demonstrated knowledge and experience with information security laws and regulations and ability to
translate that knowledge to deliver relevant and actionable guidance to business.
Experience working on policy issues related to information security and threat sharing as it intersects with data privacy and cybersecurity.
Experience supporting evolving global cybersecurity programs and knowledge of cybersecurity
technology tools and capabilities.
Experience with cybersecurity standards, frameworks, risk assessments and certification processes
such as ISO and other compliance frameworks, and customer and supplier contract negotiations related
thereto.
Proactively identify cyber risks that could impact Mastercard or our industry.
Demonstrate the ability to articulate strategies and define solutions to enable secure
platforms, applications, software and cyber architecture.
Proficiency in contract drafting and negotiation and experience in commercial practices generally are
required.
Aside from being a proven individual contributor, must be able to work as part of a team, and have
strong collaborative and multi-tasking skills and experience with coordinating cross-functional teams to
execute initiatives and transactions.
Must be able to strike a balance between the two principal objectives of being a facilitator to the
business and protecting the interests of the company.
Quick learner, stress resistant, ability to grasp complex new business concepts, good commercial
acumen, and creative approach to problem-solving.
A proactive, time-sensitive, results driven approach in carrying out all duties, obligations, and
responsibilities.

Pay Range:
Arlington, Virginia - $187,000-300,000
O'Fallon, Missouri - $163,000-261,000

In line with Mastercard’s total compensation philosophy and assuming that the job will be performed in the US, the successful candidate will be offered a competitive base salary based on location, experience and other qualifications for the role and may be eligible for an annual bonus or commissions depending on the role.
