We’re hiring a Senior Model Content Designer for JP (Japan) on our UX team.
Job responsibilities
Gemini UX partners with engineering, product management, and teams across Google to create intuitive, conversational, and—most importantly, helpful—experiences that are powered by generative AI. We’re helping the next tech revolution not feel like tech at all.
We're looking for an analytical logophie who is passionate about writing and can work with a cross-functional team to develop high-quality content for the Gemini model. This content designer will:
- Define content quality for Japanese users
- Write user-facing, on tone Japanese content at scale
- Develop scalable, Japanese-specific guidelines
- Work with cross-functional partners in Eng, PM, Marketing, Legal to understand product needs and constraints.
- Define and establish comprehensive content quality standards for the Gemini model, addressing factors like factual accuracy, privacy, safety, personality, tone, and style.
- Conduct reviews and audits of model-generated content to ensure compliance with established standards and identify areas for improvement.
- Develop strategies for improving content quality, as well as instructions, guidelines, and standards to guide the work of reviewers, with a focus on articulating how we define high-quality content.
- Write ideal model responses that serve as the north star for model output.
- Collaborate with engineers, product managers, researchers, and data scientists to define quality standards and approaches to measurement.
- Advocate for a user-centered approach to model output, ensuring that the content the model generates meets the needs and expectations of our users.
- Deeply understand model training methods and processes, and stay up-to-date on the latest advancements in generative AI.

As a content designer working on the quality of the Gemini model’s output, you’re not only working on a new technology for users and helping them get the best out of it, but you’re also reimagining what it means to be a content designer through your day-to-day work. You’ll work in an ambiguous and very exciting area with a lot of passionate people.
You’ll be a systems thinker with strong content strategy, conversation design, and problem-solving skills, with a particular passion for the craft of writing. You’ll have experience writing, editing, and delivering longer-form content in a fast-paced, agile environment with complex cross-org and cross-functional partnerships. You’ll have proven experience partnering with product, engineering, research, and data science to articulate and guide product strategy.
Qualifications
Minimum qualifications
You must meet these minimum qualifications to apply for this job:
- Deep understanding of the Japanese market and high fluency in Japanese.
- Bachelor's degree in English, Communications, Journalism, Technical Writing, UX, HCI, or equivalent practical experience.
- 4 years of experience on user-focused writing, including work in hardware, software, digital agencies, creative industries, journalism, or other relevant areas.
- Experience in shaping content for multi-disciplinary projects.
- A portfolio of content strategies and longer-form writing samples.
Preferred qualifications
Having as many of these specific qualifications is a plus, but transferable skills/experiences may be equally valuable:
- Experience working on large language models or other generative AI or machine learning technologies
- Experience in a fast-paced, startup environment
- Experience working on multi-modal platforms, like voice-driven experiences or AR/VR
- Experience working on editorial teams
The US base salary range for this full-time position is between $$161,000 - $245,000 + bonus + equity + benefits. Your recruiter can share more about the specific salary range for your targeted location during the hiring process.
