Position Summary:

The Communications Specialist will be responsible for internal and external communications in Singapore, including orchestrating high-profile visits to the Singapore Woodlands Hub by government officials, dignitaries, key customers, Illumina leadership, and others. This role will report to the Director of Communications, AMEA, and partner closely with the General Manager, Singapore Operations, and Singapore’s Human Resources, Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR), Facilities, Government Affairs, and Commercial teams to ensure alignment to global and regional strategy and execution.

This position requires a talented, positive, professional who thrives in a fast-paced environment where priorities can shift quickly. They must have strong interpersonal skills to connect with internal stakeholders and provide hands-on support to run internal campaigns and events that may also involve external stakeholders.

Role to be based at the Woodlands hub and to be in office four days/week.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Build a strong editorial calendar for Singapore, with a particular focus on the Woodlands hub in alignment with the overall communications and business strategy.
  • Co-create employee engagement initiatives with senior leaders and HR to build a highly motivated workforce.
  • Support employee engagement events and campaigns (e.g., town hall meetings, CSR activities, etc.).
  • Support high level manufacturing facility tours and other events attended by Illumina leaders, partners, customers and dignitaries.
  • Cover and report on events across the Woodlands hub for internal publication, leveraging global employee platforms as appropriate.
  • Partner closely with HR team to provide ongoing feedback regarding communication strategy, content, channels, and employee sentiment.
  • Working in close partnership with AMEA Communications team, serve as Singapore lead for PR and communications partner with CSR, Government Affairs, Commercial, and Facilities teams on Singapore initiatives.
  • Develop storytelling and messaging, leveraging the corporate narrative to enhance corporate reputation as a Great Place to Work. Work with PR agency and AMEA Communications to extend the reach of these messages externally to attract and retain talent.
  • Implement and introduce governance as lead for internal communications for Woodlands hub, and proactively share communications best practices, learnings, and successes.
  • Manage and grow key internal communications platforms, including town hall meetings and Viva Engage.
  • Serve as a member of the Singapore crisis communications committee to provide communications guidance and to manage communications with internal and external stakeholders, as needed. Elevate appropriate issues to regional and global communications team, partnering on incident response planning and execution.

Preferred Experience/Education/Skills:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Marketing, or a related field.
  • Seven years of work experience, preferably with at least five years in a PR, marketing, communications, or journalism-related field.
  • Excellent writing and editing skills, as well as the ability to adopt the style, tone, and voice of Illumina. Expertise in presentations and scripting as well as video messages.
  • Experience and passion for internal communications that supports employee engagement.
  • Strong teamwork and interpersonal skills with an ability to connect and engage with internal stakeholders confidently, including senior management.
  • Self-starter, highly organized, and able to meet deadlines.
  • Experience in working in a matrix and multicultural environment
  • Commitment to quality and attention to detail
  • Familiarity with content management systems and social collaboration platforms
  • Events planning and execution expertise
  • Communications experience with large manufacturing teams a plus
