Job Description

The Senior Commercial Carbon Lead, based in Geneva (Switzerland) reports to the Global Head of Sustainability and Energy Transition. He/she has a commercial and strategic role. He/she has extensive commercial experience in carbon credits with focus on voluntary carbon markets, international aviation low carbon and Paris Agreement credits. He/she commercializes LDC’s carbon credits portfolio to a wide range of counterparties (corporate end-buyers, aircraft operators and intermediaries) and builds and maintains a network of external commercial relationships. He/she also plays a strategic role in the team in analyzing and identifying new carbon credits market opportunities and building and implementing go-to-market strategies.

Main Responsibilities:

  • Identifies, develops and maintains external relationships and network with end-user customers, corporate en-buyers, aircraft operators, intermediaries, brokers, wholesalers, retailers, consultants, and other key players / stakeholders in order to commercialise LDC’s carbon credits portfolio.
  • Identifies, negotiates and closes over-the-counter carbon credit transactions with counterparties, including structured and forward deals in the primary and secondary markets. Ensures timely entry of trades into position management system & validates positions and P&Ls for use in shaping position strategy. Liaises with back-office teams to ensure timely delivery of carbon credits in carbon registries.
  • Actively contributes to and participates in the establishment of a carbon expert knowledge center within LDC to embed carbon within the full value chain.
  • Analyzes carbon credits market based on external reports and internal analysis. Understands macro fundamentals and supply / demand movements and contributes with insights to the management of LDC’s carbon credits portfolio.
  • Analyzes policy developments in the voluntary carbon market, Paris Agreement and carbon compliance schemes across the globe where carbon credits are usable, in order to identify commercial opportunities for LDC. Plays a strategic role in the team in analyzing and identifying new carbon credits market opportunities and building and implementing go-to-market strategies.
  • Distributes weekly market wires to the Sustainability and Energy Transition team, recapping relevant policy, market and trade highlights.
  • Organize / participate in internal workshops and presentations to transfer knowledge.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 10 years in a commercial position in the voluntary carbon credits market (e.g. origination, sales, business development) of which minimum 3 years experience working in (or with) the aviation sector on low carbon opportunities including carbon credits and new fuels
  • Minimum 5 years commercial experience in a large commodity trading company
  • On the ground experience with voluntary carbon project development (community and nature-based projects) in developing countries is a plus
  • Strong analytical skills to understand, use and/or develop methodologies and tools to evaluate supply & demand dynamics and policy developments in carbon markets and shape go-to-market strategies
  • Solid understanding of hedge & position management, balance sheet analysis & P&L reporting.
