About Xaira Therapeutics

Xaira is an innovative biotech startup focused on leveraging AI to transform drug discovery and development. The company is leading the development of generative AI models to design protein and antibody therapeutics, enabling the creation of medicines against historically hard-to-drug molecular targets. It is also developing foundation models for biology and disease to enable better target elucidation and patient stratification. Collectively, these technologies aim to continually enable the identification of novel therapies and to improve success in drug development.

About Xaira Therapeutics
Xaira Therapeutics is an integrated biotechnology company driving advances in artificial intelligence to learn the language of life and transform how we treat disease. The company seeks to rethink the drug discovery and development process from end-to-end by bringing together leading talent across three core areas: machine learning research to better understand biology, expansive data generation to power new models, and robust therapeutic product development to treat disease. Xaira is headquartered in the San Francisco Bay Area.

About the Role

We are seeking a bioinformatics engineer with experience in collaborative research, building automated analytical systems, and developing rigorous, reproducible pipelines. We offer a flexible work environment, a diverse set of projects, and a best-in-class peer group to learn from. This is a great opportunity to tackle a unique set of problems while shaping the future of healthcare.

Key Responsibilities

  • Create efficient, scalable, and reproducible pipelines for the analysis of genetic, functional genomic, proteomic, and other molecular data types.
  • Develop cloud-native pipelines tailored to platforms like AWS.
  • Integrate scientific pipelines and their output with other structured and unstructured data, including LIMS, databases, and other scientist-facing systems.
  • Implement software best practices including version control and CI/CD workflows to automate testing, deployment and ensure software quality
  • Design and execute comprehensive unit, integration, and regression tests for pipelines to maintain consistency and accuracy across pipeline iterations.
  • Author thorough documentation to ensure pipelines are well-understood and executable by others.
  • Collaborate with scientists and software engineers to execute complex analyses, including integration of internally and externally developed tools.
  • Work with engineers and scientists to manage inputs, intermediates, and results of complex pipelines, providing clear provenance and reproducibility for critical decisions.

Qualifications

  • MS or PhD in bioinformatics, computer science, or equivalent.
  • 3-8 years of relevant work experience in industry post-PhD or MS.
  • Experience establishing efficient, reproducible pipelines for the analysis of biological data and other data types preferred.
  • Deep understanding of cloud platforms (e.g., AWS) including cost optimization and resource management.
  • Familiarity with database design and query optimization for managing bioinformatics data.
  • Familiarity with ETL process and data integration techniques.
  • Ability to write high-quality code both independently and as part of a team. Experience with software development in industry and/or distributed computing strongly preferred.
  • Experience with at least one scripting language (e.g., Python) and at least one database language (e.g., SQL) required. Experience with workflow systems (e.g., Nextflow, WDL/CWL, Airflow, etc) and/or statistical languages (e.g., R), valued but not essential.

Compensation

We offer a competitive compensation and benefits package, seeking to provide an open, flexible, and friendly work environment to empower employees and provide them with a platform to develop their long-term careers. A Summary of Benefits is available for all applicants.
