Overview of Position:
To perform accurate, timely billing processes. To courteously and professionally answer customer questions regarding billing issues.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES
1. Inputs billing charges in the computer as needed.
2. Answers phones and assist with referrals as needed.
3. Performs various types of billing according to JCAHO, CMS, federal, state and company policies.
4. Works with staff at all Northside locations on any needed documentation to facilitate accurate and timely billing.
5. Prepares prior authorization paperwork as needed and in accordance with JCAHO, CMS, federal, state and company policies.
6. Verifies all documentation is in place prior to billing.
7. Keeps detailed and accurate records pertaining to service dates, products billed, payments received.
8. Follows up on insurance denials and unreasonable reductions in allowed charges.
9. Collects past due balances from insurance companies as well as patients.
10. Compiles needed reports for tracking of any and all types of accounts.
11. Assist in retail area of store as needed.
12. Generates documentation involving CMN’s as needed.
13. Takes ownership of billing problems and assists other employees with problem solving.
14. Serves as a mentor for new employees and provides training and guidance of less experienced billers.
15. Reports potential problems with billing to the manager.
16. Promotes and drives continuous quality improvement initiatives.
13. Any other duties assigned by the Billing Office Manager, Corporate Compliance Manager or NOME Manager.
QUALIFICATIONS
High school graduate or equivalent required. Minimum of 3 years experience in medical billing. Must be able to proficiently operate adding machine. Must be computer literate to have the ability to input and retrieve data from billing computer systems.

WORKING CONDITIONS/PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

1. Works in an office environment.
2. Must regularly lift or move up to 10 pounds, frequently lift or move up to 25 pounds and often lift or move up to 50 pounds.
3. Vision abilities require up-close vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.
5. Individual bends, reaches, pushes and pulls file drawers to file records and reports.
6. Answers phone calls, uses computer and other business machines extensively which requires the ability to apply finger dexterity.
7. May be required to periodically rotate shifts and regular days off. All system employees must be willing to work all shifts, extra hours, holidays and emergency shifts as required.
