We are seeking a skilled and experienced Data Engineer to join our dynamic team. As a Data Engineer at Ocado Technology, you will play a crucial role in managing BigQuery data at all stages of the lifecycle, identifying inefficiencies and waste and optimising the utilisation of BigQuery resources across the organisation. Additionally, you will be responsible for leveraging the most advanced features of BigQuery and designing cutting-edge solutions for performance and cost optimisation. You’ll deliver valuable insights to the rest of the organisation empowering others to take informed decisions on how to leverage big data.
Roles & Responsibilities:
- Enable development teams to effectively use BigQuery capabilities via our internal data platform
- Identify opportunities for cost & performance optimization and implement solutions to enhance efficiency
- Develop and implement effective data retention strategies in compliance with organisational policies and regulations
- Create tools to automate compliance controls
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams and Data Governance to understand compliance requirements
- Utilise the latest advancements in BigQuery to deliver cutting-edge data products
- Design, develop, and maintain BigQuery data pipelines and workflows, utilising the most advanced features of BigQuery
- Troubleshoot and resolve data-related issues in a timely manner
- Stay current with industry trends and best practices to continually enhance data engineering capabilities
- Work closely with development teams and product to understand data needs and support data-driven decision-making
Knowledge, Skills and Experience:
ESSENTIAL
- Proven experience as a Data Engineer or similar Engineering role.
- Strong proficiency in SQL
- Java programming experience
- Solid understanding of data modelling, ETL processes, and Big Data concepts
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
DESIRABLE
- In-depth knowledge and experience with the most advanced features of BigQuery
- Familiarity with cloud-based data storage and processing (preferably Google Cloud Platform)
