About Us:

Join one of our product teams and develop features with real value for a one-of-a-kind product management system used by 4500+ global companies.

As a leading B2B SaaS company transforming how product teams around the world build and manage products, we are expanding our internal Growth team in San Francisco. We are looking for a seasoned Senior Backend Engineer to help architect and implement backend systems that are critical to our monetization and retention strategies.

About the Role:

The Growth team’s goal is to make it exceptionally easy for people around the world to discover, trial, buy, and use our suite of products and services. As a result, our team is responsible for driving sustainable business growth by increasing acquisition, monetization, conversion, and retention throughout the end-to-end customer funnel. We use experimentation, customer feedback, and data-driven insights to guide our work and optimize the customer experience.

Your work will focus on developing and optimizing backend systems that enable more effective monetization strategies, enhance customer retention, and streamline the product experience to better serve our users.

Key Focus Areas:

Monetization Optimization: Architect and refine backend systems that support dynamic pricing models and feature gating. You will work on backend logic that determines how features are packaged and made available to users across different pricing tiers, ensuring seamless scalability as our user base grows.
Retention Enhancement: Build and optimize backend services that gather and process user data to identify patterns related to churn and engagement. You’ll develop tools that allow the team to proactively address retention issues by providing personalized user experiences and recommendations.
Product-Qualified Lead Development: Collaborate on backend solutions that identify and track Product Qualified Leads (PQLs), integrating with sales and marketing systems to ensure these leads are effectively nurtured and converted into paying customers.

Day to Day Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with product, data, and design to build and test backend features that improve retention and monetization metrics.
  • Lead the backend development of new features and optimizations that directly contribute to the team’s growth objectives, such as contributing to our monetization platform or enhancing user segmentation tools.
  • Evaluate and integrate third-party tools or services that enhance our backend capabilities, particularly in areas critical to scaling our monetization and retention efforts.
  • Share your knowledge on backend engineering and growth strategies across the organization, promoting best practices and innovative approaches.

Our Tech Stack:

As a Senior Backend Engineer, you will be an expert in Ruby (on Rails) and have experience with the following frameworks, tools, and languages:

  • Frontend: TypeScript, React.js (for full-stack awareness)
  • Backend: Ruby on Rails, GraphQL, Kafka
  • Storage: Postgres, OpenSearch, Redis
  • Data Pipeline: Python, Keboola, Looker, Snowflake
  • Infrastructure: AWS, Kubernetes, Terraform

About You:

  • Experience: 5+ years of experience in building scalable web applications with a strong focus on backend development.
  • Monetization and Retention Focus: Proven experience in solving growth-related challenges, particularly in the areas of monetization and customer retention.
  • Collaboration Skills: Demonstrated ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams, including product management, marketing, and data analysis, to drive business outcomes.
  • Business Acumen: Strong understanding of key business KPIs such as conversion, engagement, retention, and churn, and how backend systems can influence these metrics.
  • Proactive & Versatile: Capable of taking ownership of projects, even outside of your direct responsibilities, and comfortable working within other teams’ codebases (guest dev) to drive initiatives forward.
  • Data-Driven Development: Experience using A/B testing tools (Optimizely, LaunchDarkly) and telemetry/BI tools (Looker, Amplitude, MixPanel) to iterate quickly and measure the impact of your work.

What’s in it for you?

  • Be part of building the world’s first and best Product Platform that fundamentally changes how our industry approaches the craft of Product Management.
