WHY YOU SHOULD APPLY
As a Backend Developer, you'll play a pivotal role in developing critical backend services for our GuitarTuna product, the world's #1 product for tuning your instruments. You won’t just write code, you’ll own critical backend systems, drive technical excellence, and ensure our platform scales to support millions of users worldwide. Your expertise will help refine how we build, deploy, and optimize backend services, ensuring a seamless experience for our users.
You’ll be involved from ideation to release, making high-impact decisions that influence our product and users at scale.
WHAT YOU WILL DO
As a Backend Developer at Yousician, your day-to-day responsibilities will include:
- Designing and implementing new features, ensuring robustness and maintainability and scalability.
- Establish and advocate for best coding practices, driving improvements in code quality and system architecture.
- Own complex troubleshooting and debugging efforts, proactively identifying and resolving performance bottlenecks
- Conduct and mentor others in code reviews, fostering a high standard of engineering excellence.
- Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams to drive architectural decisions and long-term technical strategy.
- Guide and support junior developers, sharing knowledge and best practices.
WHAT YOU NEED TO SUCCEED
- Strong experience in backend development
- Advanced proficiency in Python 3 and backend frameworks like Flask or FastAPI.
- Deep experience with REST-based API development and database technologies (MongoDB, SQL).
- Strong cloud experience, with expertise in deploying scalable applications on cloud platforms.
- Experience with unit testing and test-driven development (TDD), preferably using Pytest or similar frameworks.
- Strong communication and collaboration skills, ensuring smooth teamwork in an agile, cross-functional environment
Nice-to-Haves:
- Experience with monetization strategies, including Apple Store and Google App Store integrations.
- Familiarity with Unity and the ability to read app code.
- Experience with serialization frameworks like Pydantic.

Your own instrument
We also have our own stage at our Helsinki office. We also have a double bass, electric and acoustic guitars, a baby grand piano, digital pianos, mixers, microphones, drums, you name it! We have jam sessions after work on Fridays (when it’s safe to do so).
A recording studio
In Helsinki, we have our own recording studio–which you are free to use for your own projects. We love music and encourage everyone to play their favorite songs.
