T-Rex Solutions is looking to select a Senior AWS Database Engineer to support the US Department of the Treasury TCloud enterprise cloud development effort. This effort aims to facilitate holistic multi-cloud solutions to meet the Department of Treasury’s enterprise-wide infrastructure needs. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in managing and optimizing Relational and open source databases such as SQL Server, PostgreSQL, MySQL and Oracle databases, as well as extensive experience with AWS managed databases including RDS, Aurora and Redshift. This role requires a deep understanding of database failover and recovery, backups, migration of on-premises databases to AWS, and proficiency with AWS CloudWatch. The successful candidate will be passionate about ensuring database performance, availability, and security, and experienced in handling data warehouses.
Responsibilities:
- Database Management: Administer, maintain, and implement policies and procedures for ensuring the security and integrity of databases.
- Database Design and Architecture: Collaborate with the team to design highly available, scalable, and secure database architectures.
- Performance Tuning: Monitor database performance, implement changes and apply new patches and versions when required to ensure optimal performance.
- Failover and Recovery: Design and execute database backup and recovery strategies, including failover planning and testing.
- Migration and Upgrade: Lead migration projects from on-premises databases to AWS, including planning, execution, and validation of database migrations and upgrades.
- Security and Compliance: Ensure database security measures are in place, including access controls and audit logging. Comply with all applicable data privacy laws and regulations.
- Data Warehousing: Manage and optimize AWS Redshift instances and other data warehousing solutions for scalable and efficient data storage and analysis.
- Monitoring: Utilize AWS CloudWatch and other monitoring tools to ensure database health, performance, and to automate scaling and notifications.
- Troubleshooting and Support: Provide high-level support for complex database issues, including troubleshooting and resolving database integrity issues, performance issues, blocking and deadlocking issues, replication issues, log shipping issues, etc.
- Automated Monitoring: Set up and configure automated monitoring and alerting for database health, performance, and uptime using AWS CloudWatch, AWS CloudTrail, and other tools.
- Documentation: Maintain clear documentation for database configurations, processes, procedures, and troubleshooting guides.
Requirements:
- Must be a US Citizen with the ability to obtain a Public Trust clearance
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field and at least 7 years' experience
- Database Expertise: Proven experience as a DBA with expertise in Oracle and Postgres databases.
- AWS Managed Databases: Extensive experience with AWS database services, including Aurora, RDS, and Redshift.
- Cloud Infrastructure: Familiarity with AWS infrastructure and services like EC2, VPC, S3, IAM, and Lambda.
- Automation and Scripting: Experience with automation tools and scripting languages such as Python, Shell, or AWS Lambda to automate database tasks.
- Monitoring and Logging: Experience with AWS CloudWatch, CloudTrail, and other monitoring tools to ensure high availability and performance.
- Failover and Recovery: Solid experience in database failover, recovery procedures, and disaster recovery planning.
- Comprehensive understanding of modern database design, database management, and best practices.
- Strong understanding of the software development and release management processes.
- Strong verbal, written, interpersonal, troubleshooting, and analytical skills.
- Migration Experience: Demonstrated experience with migrating on-premises databases to AWS.
- Technical Skills: Proficient in SQL, database design, and data modeling. Familiarity with AWS CLI, SDKs, and CloudWatch.
Desired:
- Certifications: AWS or relevant database certifications (e.g., Oracle Certified Professional, PostgreSQL Professional).
- Scripting Skills: Experience with scripting languages (e.g., Python, Bash) for automation of database tasks.
- Monitoring Tools: Deep familiarity with database monitoring tools, especially AWS CloudWatch, for performance monitoring and alerting.
- Active Treasury clearance preferred

In compliance with pay transparency guidelines, the annual base salary range for this position is $115,000 - $150,000. Please note that the salary information is a general guideline only.
