Job Description
Position Purpose
As a Senior Automation Network Engineer at CHEP, you will be instrumental in designing, deploying, and managing the network infrastructure that powers our cutting-edge automation systems. This role is vital to ensuring that our systems operate with optimal performance, security, and reliability, enabling CHEP to deliver on its promise of innovation and efficiency. You will collaborate with a multidisciplinary team of engineers, architects, and automation experts to build and maintain a network infrastructure that scales with our growing automation landscape.
Major/Key Accountabilities
- Lead the design with key strategic partners and suppliers for the development of schematics and specifications for network architecture supporting automation systems, ensuring optimal performance, scalability, and seamless integration with CHEP’s automation technologies.
- Offer technical expertise in network and hardware-software interfacing, including configuration and integration of routers, multiplexers, firewalls, hubs, bridges, gateways, and other networking equipment, specifically between CHEP’s automation systems within the Service Centres.
- Implement advanced techniques and tools to deliver efficient, scalable network solutions tailored to the needs of automation systems and future business capacity requirements.
- Collaborate closely with CHEP’s Networking teams and lead efforts in developing CHEP's automation future, focusing on networking and data transfer solutions that optimize performance within Service Centre operations.
- Design, develop, and maintain tools and services that aggregate and standardize data from multiple sources, enabling streamlined network management for the automation systems within the Service Centre.
- Support the development of comprehensive documentation, processes, and procedures related to network infrastructure and operations, with a focus on their integration into automation workflows related to the deployed systems within the Service Centres.
- Support the development and maintain automation scripts and tools for network provisioning, monitoring, and troubleshooting, ensuring alignment with CHEP’s automation goals while improving operational efficiency.
- Implement Infrastructure as Code (IaC) practices to automate and standardize network configurations and changes, enhancing automation systems’ reliability and scalability.
- Develop custom automated monitoring solutions to assess network health, proactively identify issues, and enhance performance in automation-driven environments.
- Collaborate with security teams to ensure network compliance with industry security standards and organizational policies, addressing unique requirements of automation systems.
- Collaborate in the design, plan, and implementation of robust network solutions across LAN, WAN, and cloud environments that interface seamlessly with automation infrastructure.
- Support the development and maintenance of up-to-date network architecture documentation and diagrams, emphasizing automation systems’ integration for clarity and alignment across teams.

Qualifications
Required:
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Network Engineering, Electrical Engineering or a related field.
Desirable:
- Cisco Certified Network Professional (CCNP) or equivalent is a plus.
- CCIE, JNCIE, or other advanced certifications are a plus.
Experience
- Proven experience with LAN/WAN design, implementation, and support.
- Experience with cloud networking (AWS, Azure, or similar).
- Proficiency in networking protocols such as TCP/IP, BGP, OSPF, EIGRP, and MPLS.
- Hands-on experience with network security technologies (firewalls, VPNs, IDS/IPS).
- Experience with Cisco, Juniper, or equivalent networking hardware.
- Experience with network management tools.
- Familiarity with network monitoring tools.
- Understanding of SDN (Software-Defined Networking) and virtualization technologies (VMware, Hyper-V).
- Proficiency in networking protocols such as TCP/IP, BGP, OSPF, EIGRP, and MPLS.
- Strong experience with network automation tools and scripting languages (e.g., Python, Ansible, Terraform).
- Experience in networking multiple automation systems with secure data handoffs and seamless integration.
Skills and Knowledge
- Sound knowledge of network architecture, topologies, engineering, design, implementation, and testing
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to troubleshoot complex network and automation system issues.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to collaborate effectively with multidisciplinary teams.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment while managing multiple priorities.
- QoS (Quality of Service) Design
- Familiarity with communication products including router, switches, firewalls, Domain Name Servers (DNS) and data encryption products.
- Knowledge of Nexus OS, Cisco IOS, Junos OS
- Experience with network management tools.
