Altarum Institute’s Applied Research and Analytics Practice Area is seeking a Senior Analyst to join our fast-paced, demanding, but rewarding, consulting environment. We work to improve the health of disenfranchised populations by combining our expertise in public health and health care delivery to address health disparities, improve programs, and build better systems of care through an equity-focused lens.
This role will primarily work with the Survey Science team and may support work across projects on various health topics relevant to Altarum focus areas. For nearly two decades, Altarum’s Survey Science Team has worked with clients to design custom data collections and methods and apply advanced analytic capabilities. We specialize in statistically representative health surveys that provide accurate and generalizable data that are used by government entities to drive changes in health policy.
The ideal candidate will have the opportunity to use your expertise in statistics; research study design, including sampling procedures and power calculations; survey methods; developing data collection tools; leading data analysis; and developing reports and other communications that portray findings in compelling ways for a broad range of audiences. This role requires you to provide thought leadership and expert consultation to the team and our clients, as well as mentor earlier career analysts. The successful candidate will also bring experience participating in business development efforts, networking, and developing strong partner relationships.
Responsibilities
- Lead research study design and serve as lead analyst for quantitative projects
- Apply advanced statistical knowledge to the design of surveys, data collection, data processing, analysis of data, and interpretation of results
- Develop sampling approaches, including weighting data, conducting sample size estimates and power calculations
- Describe, interpret and provide visuals for research results for a non-technical audience.
- Use subject matter knowledge and experiences to formulate plans and manage project timelines and processes for completion
- Summarize monthly and annual progress and results for projects, using clear and concise written narrative, data charts and effective visualizations
- Provide mentorship to and oversee the work of junior analysts
- Consult with external clients and internal staff to define need or problem and analytic solutions
- Oversee research, administer studies, evaluate results to advise on or recommend solutions, utilizing knowledge of theory, principles, or technology of specific discipline or fields of specialization
- Work on multiple projects concurrently
- Support business development efforts, including proposal and grant writing
Qualifications
- PhD from an accredited college or university in Public Health Epidemiology, Biostatistics, Data Science, or related field with relevant specialized training in statistics or equivalent experience.
- At least eight (8) years of directly related experience in conducting complex analyses.
- Strong analytical/critical thinking skills and knowledge of quantitative and qualitative research and evaluation methods and design.
- Content area knowledge and experience related to public health and healthcare delivery.
- Experience with survey data collection
- Experience with project conceptualization, planning, implementation, execution, and presentation of results
- Proficiency in all basic office software applications (including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.).
- Proficiency in statistical programs (SASrequired; STATA or SPSS preferred)
- Experience designing and producing effective data visualizations preferred
- Demonstrated knowledge, skills and experience in development and management of large, complex evaluations, including quality assurance of data
- Ability to gather and analyze available data/information and draw logical conclusions
- Proficient written communication skills with ability to develop technical reports that effectively communicate findings
- Must be able to receive a U.S. Security Clearance (sole U.S. citizenship required)
- Familiarity with military and Veteran populations is preferred
- Experience with proposal or grant writing

- At this time, we will only accept candidates who are presently eligible to work in the United States and will not require sponsorship.
- Our organization requires that all work, for the duration of your employment, must be completed in the continental U.S. unless required by contract.
- If you are local to our offices in Arlington, Silver Spring, Novi, or Portland this role will be hybrid.
- Must be able to work during eastern time unless approved by your manager.
