General Description:

We are looking for an independent and experienced Sr. Accounting Manager to be based in Japan, as the entity controller to ensure financial compliance and discipline with strategic thinking and controlling mindset. This is a key position be accountable for a broad range of accounting and controlling matters. Core to this role is to lead financial accounting process and oversee Balance Sheet accounts, and to support commercial launch and post-launch commercial order to cash operations in Japan. To work closely with whole APAC accounting team (based in CN, AUS, KR) to drive simplification, process optimization and efficiency. The capability and willingness on hands-on approach is mandatory so as to ensure accurate and timely book close. As BeiGene continues its commercial roll out and business expansion, this role is required to have the competency of working under a fast-paced, quickly growing environment to support local business activities while ensuring financial compliance. The ideal candidate should also bring strong US GAAP and local GAAP knowledge combined with a skill of SAP, S/4 Hana.

Comprehensive and solid accounting experience, knowledge in local accounting and industry practice, both controlling mindset and hands-on skills, highly organized, problem-solving skills, strong execution of work, effective stakeholder management, and capability to work in a multi-culture environment are key to success.

Essential Functions of the job:

  • As entity controller to oversee and be accountable for financial compliance, to lead GL accounting process as well as commercial order to cash process.

  • Play a vital role in providing Japan market insights and recommendations for the purpose of being compliant and regular improvement.

  • As accounting controller role, proactively identify and being sensitive to potential accounting issues, and work with APAC accounting team to properly address the issue.

  • Looking after monthly book close, own and execute closing process per monthly closing checklist.

  • To manage manual journal entries relating to payroll, deferral amortization, expense accruals etc.

  • Balance Sheet accounts reconciliations and analytical review. Ensure Balance Sheet accuracy.

  • Lead statutory accounts preparation and audit. Strong liaison with local auditor to ensure alignment with the compliance requirements.

  • Execution of commercial order to cash process together with APAC accounting team, like distribution agreement review, accounting implication evaluation, credit management, Accounts receivable management, bad debt provision, revenue gross to net adjustment, sales cutoff testing, inventory management, invoicing to customer etc.

  • Monitor and identify regular improvement on commercial order to cash process with insights of local industry practice and proactively communication with local business team and local 3PL. 

  • Support and participate APAC accounting and Global accounting initiatives, controls & policies establishment and implementation, contributing to the overall growth of Accounting team.

  • Communicates, coordinates, and collaborates with cross-teams within broader finance and procurement, like FSSC, Treasury, Tax, FP&A, located in Japan, CN, AUS, US etc.

  • Reconciliation between US GAAP and Local GAAP ledgers. Support and coordinate group audit request.

  • Work closely with local team, keep pace with business update and provide best-practice guidance to business activity, to coordinate and support stakeholder request.

  • Other ad hoc works assigned by supervisor.

Qualification Required:

Education Required:

Accounting/Business/Finance Bachelor degree

Supervisory Responsibilities: Currently none.

Computer Skills:

Strong SAP knowledge required (S/4 Hana preferred), Blackline, Excel, Power BI

Other Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in finance/accounting/business/economics.

  • Minimum 10+ years of relevant experience in similar positions.

  • Experience in multinational Pharmaceutical /Lifesciences is mandatory.

  • Solid knowledge of bookkeeping, local accounting principles, practices, standards, laws and regulations.

  • Excellent spoken/ written English and Japanese.

  • Strong communication skills and stakeholder management skills.

  • Cultural sensitivity, capability of working under hybrid organization

  • Highly self-motivated, independent with the flexibility and creativity in a rapidly growing environment.

  • Good teamwork player

  • Based in Japan

Travel: Minimal. domestic travel once a month if not live in Tokyo.
