Job Description
As the Managing Director, Strategy & Innovation – Private Equity, you will lead the strategic vision and execution of transformational projects critical to the department’s success. Reporting directly into the Head of Strategy & Investment Management, this role is ideal for a senior investment professional who thrives at the intersection of investing, strategy, digital innovation, and cross-functional leadership.
The successful candidate will play a key role in strategic projects in portfolio construction and relative value assessment, aimed at enhancing investment decision-making and capital deployment effectiveness and updating and delivering against the PE digital roadmap to enhance the effectiveness and efficiency across existing and emerging tools and analytics.
Team Description
The Private Equity Strategy & Investment Management team plays a central role in shaping the long-term strategic direction of the PE department. The team drives capital planning, portfolio analytics, and industry research, while also advancing cross-functional initiatives and contributing to investment strategy development, reporting, and leadership communications.
Accountabilities:
- Provide thought leadership and analytical support for strategic initiatives around portfolio construction and relative value, contributing to departmental decision-making frameworks.
- Lead the identification and prioritization of improved investment analytics that will drive alpha across the portfolio and strategies, or drive efficiencies for the department and enterprise in partnership with the investment groups and the PE Strategy & Investment Management team.
- Partner with the investment groups to provide support, advice, and leverage.
- Drive the thought leadership and change management required with embracing new ways of working, including influencing and aligning senior stakeholders across the organization.
- Leverage your deep knowledge of the organization to navigate complexity, anticipate interdependencies, and surface opportunities for innovation.
- Leverage investment experience to effectively develop relationships, forums, and approaches that drive optimize analytics and efficiency
- Collaborate with cross-functional partners (e.g., Tech & Data, Risk, Finance, Operations, TFM/ OCIO,) to define, prioritize, and deliver data products that unlock the potential of PE’s proprietary data.
- Provide coaching and management of resources in the Strategy and Business Management team to further enhance and upgrade the overall team skills.
- Develop strategies and plans to enhance the partnership with business partners in evaluating the benefits, costs and risks associated with solutions and services.
- Ownership of the Private Equity department existing digital tools / products ongoing success, as well as leading the identification, prioritization and execution of future digital tools and enhancements
- Support the business case development in collaboration with relevant partners ensuring their product is funded and set up for success
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of the external digital tool landscape and continuously re-assess how PE can leverage existing tools / new tools to drive value
Qualifications
- Minimum 15 years of experience in the investment industry, with a strong preference for candidates with direct Private Equity or private capital markets experience.
- Proven experience working within CPP Investments and strong relationships across internal stakeholder groups.
- Deep understanding of the Private Equity business, including data usage in investment workflows, performance analytics, and portfolio management.
- Strong strategic thinking and problem-solving skills.
- Demonstrated experience leading complex, cross-functional initiatives with senior-level visibility and influence.
- Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills.
- Change management mindset with a focus on organizational adoption, engagement, and measurable business impact.
- Passionate about innovation, data, and improving decision-making in a world-class investment organization.
