Who We're Looking For

In this role, you will provide system administration and maintenance, data backup and recovery, system repairs and configuration changes, as well as assist with the analysis, design, development and evaluation of computer software/hardware.

Some of What You'll Do

Primary Responsibilities:

• Configure kickstart servers for complete hands-free installations .
• Configure and tune system and network parameters for optimum performance 
• Perform capacity/performance analysis, problem analysis, testing and tuning to ensure efficient use of resources .
• Troubleshoot system performance issues, diagnosing problems, and correcting issues with technicians located at remote data centers.
• Provide planning, analysis, implementation and testing of software upgrades (complex operating system or commercial-off the-shelf), new releases, and assess any impact to other software products being utilized.
• Ensure maintenance of stated performance objectives to maximize system availability and minimize response time.
• Collaborate with staff or vendors during installation and in resolution of any problems.
• Determine backup/recovery requirements and ensures integration with disaster recovery procedures.
• Provide appropriate documentation/reports to management.
• Perform product evaluations including recommendations.
• Analyze, resolve. and document modifications to the operating system in resolution of system malfunction.
• Collaborate with others to determine the impact of new or revised applications on existing systems software.
• Provide technical expertise in the analysis and resolution of complex problems.
• Estimate risk analysis while working on at hand issues.
• Assist with 24x7x365 operation (on-call rotation).

Job Requirements:
• BS degree in Computer Science, Information Systems or related field or equivalent work experience.
• 7+ years relevant professional experience in the areas of application support, technical customer support, problem management, relational databases, programming languages, or software development.
• 5+ years working experience in a UNIX environment.
• Working knowledge of database environment, utilities, and SQL.
• Experience with DevOps and Agile methodologies.
• Strong troubleshooting and error analysis skills.
• Exceptional customer service skills and demeanor.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills, ability to communicate with both technical and non-technical clients.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Strong prioritization and decision-making skills in a fast paced, time sensitive environment.
• Proactive Listening.
• Demonstrated accountability for resolution of issues with attention to detail and follow up communication.

Additional Info – Role Specific
For this role we are looking for a strong Unix/Linux System Admin with 5+ years of experience. A successful candidate will have recent work experience with a large Linux / Unix environment. The candidate should have in-depth knowledge of hardware platforms including but not limited to Dell, HP, IBM both rack able and modular (blade technologies) and storage technologies. A successful candidate will have experience working in virtualized infrastructure and experience in fast-paced, high-availability production environments (e.g. ISPs, cloud computing etc.) with an emphasis on remote "lights-out" management of systems. Working with a purpose and sense of urgency is key.

Desired Skills

  • Experience with VMware automation platform (vRA)
  • Experience with Ansible AWX or Tower or similar automation tools
  • Demonstrated ability to configure kickstart servers for complete hands-free installation of VM’s with custom profiles, begin/finish scripts
  • Willingness to learn and grow new skills – automation, virtualization, containers, cloud computing

  • Hardware: Dell Power Edge R7XX, R800, M6XX, M8XX, Chassis M1000e, peripherals, TOR, EOR, Oracle SPARC and OVM’s, VxRail or other HCI
  • Tools: RH Satellite 5 and 6, Volume Managers, Backup solutions, Nagios, Ansible, Puppet, Syslog, PCAP, Git, Jenkins,
  • Storage: LVM, SCSI, SATA, Ext2, Ext3, Ext4, OCFS2, NAS (NFS, SAMBA), RAID technologies, SAN arrays (iSCSI, FC)
  • RDBMS: PostgreSQL, MongoDB, MS SQL, MySQL, Oracle
