Our Corporate Technology business unit is seeking a Sr Principal Scientist - Membrane Technology to expand the use of existing membranes across our portfolio of filtration products for our innovation-driven global organization. As a contributing leader of our collaborative teams, you have the opportunity to take our membrane development to the next level. The position is located in our Bloomington, MN world headquarters and will interact with teams in Bloomington, in our U.S. manufacturing plant locations, as well as teams in Europe and Asia.
Role Responsibilities:
Development/Innovation

Lead programs to assess and develop technical capability for membrane-based filtration solutions, processes and methods

Explore, investigate, assess new areas of membrane advances that may allow new technology or applications in differentiated areas and understand market opportunities

Research potential benefit of emerging technologies, keep informed of new methods, techniques, materials and other technical advances
-
Research regulatory requirements and inform team of changes impacting development of membrane advances
-
Provides direction on critical problem areas, alternative solutions and potential consequences in the research and development process

Design experiments, analyze test results and write technical project reports
-
Design, cost, schedule, run prototype and pre-production trials using internal & external resources
Collaboration

Lead frequent and effective collaboration with other development groups to share knowledge and accelerate technology development

Collaborate with both business units and academic circles to gather customer input, assess opportunities, and align program roadmaps with technological needs

Collaborate with Legal and scientific community on Intellectual Property analysis, writing, and filing

Mentor the scientists and engineers in the field of membrane
Communication/Presentations

Give technical reports and/or presentations to senior management and technical collaboration groups to provide project updates to gain enthusiasm and buy-in for advanced opportunities

Share understanding of fundamental physics principles, state of the art technologies and manufacturing techniques with program teams.
Travel: Up to 10% domestic and international travel
Minimum Requirements:
-
Ph.D. in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, or Material Science
-
10 years of relevant post degree experience in membrane technology
-
Experience in various membrane development setting, including bench research, pilot line, and scale up including characterization and test methods
-
Expertise in polymer dope formulation and phase inverse process.

Experience evaluating new technologies and assigning value or priority to technical innovations
-
Excellent written and verbal communication skills with experience presenting technical content to different levels of the organization

Strong collaboration skills with the ability to work toward the execution of results

Knowledge and practice in patents, patent writing and other IP related processes
Preferred Experience:

Filtration or water purification experience
-
Experience with DOE principles and using statistics to analyze and present data

Experience leading discussions and projects with outside development partners

Hollow fiber development experience
Annual Salary Range: $134,800 - $178,700. Actual salaries will vary based on several factors including, but not limited to applicable work experience, training, education, performance.
This position is eligible for annual incentive plan based on performance and company growth.
