This position is embedded within the Histopathology Core Section of the Genentech Research Pathology Department and is focused on development and application of histology based procedures. The successful candidate will provide scientific and technical expertise for tissue-based histopathology assays to support research scientists and pathologists who discover and develop drugs for the treatment of cancer, autoimmune diseases, metabolic diseases, and ocular and neurological diseases. The Histopathology Core Section at Genentech is a state-of-the art lab equipped with novel technologies and automated platforms that develops assays primarily for discovery research using both standard and internally developed methodologies.
The Opportunity:
We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Histology Technician to join our dynamic team. The ideal candidate will not only have extensive experience in general histology preparation but will also possess or have motivation to develop specialized skills in tissue preparation for spatial omics assays. This role is integral to advancing our research and development efforts in the cutting-edge field of spatial biology.
Key Responsibilities:

Perform routine histological and immunohistochemical procedures including tissue processing, embedding, sectioning, and staining (H&E, special stains, immunohistochemistry, in situ hybridization)

Prepare high-quality histological samples for spatial omics analyses, ensuring precise and accurate tissue handling

Collaborate with research scientists and provide support in experimental design and data analysis

Maintain detailed and accurate laboratory records in compliance with regulatory standards

Stay updated on the latest advancements in histology and spatial omics technologies

Troubleshoot technical issues and optimize protocols as necessary

Participate in team meetings and contribute to the ongoing development of histology and spatial omics methodologies
Qualifications:
-
Scientist 2 level requirements: The successful applicant will have 5+ years of experience in relevant fields, 5 - 7 years experience with AA/AS or BA/BS, 3 - 5 years with Masters, 1 - 2 years with PhD/MD/DVM

Scientist 3 level requirements: The successful applicant will have 8+ years of expert experience in relevant fields; 8 - 11 years AA/AS or BA/BS, 6 - 9 years with Masters, 3 - 6 years with PhD/MD/DVM

HT(ASCP) or HTL(ASCP) certification is preferred

Proficiency in tissue processing, embedding, microtomy, and routine histological staining

Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail

Strong communication and collaborative skills

Ability to work independently and as part of an interdisciplinary team
Preferred Qualifications:

Education: Bachelor's degree in Biology, Medical Laboratory Science, or related field. Advanced degree or certification in histotechnology is a plus.

Experience: Minimum of 5 years of experience in histology with a strong scientific background

Must demonstrate a record of relevant professional experience

Excellent multitasking, organization, record keeping, and problem-solving skills with good time management

Excellent interpersonal skills with demonstrated ability to work within a team of diverse expertise

Must have a desire to perform bench-work and an enthusiasm for presenting work to a wide scientific audience

The expected salary range for this position based on the primary location of California is $83, 800 - $155,600 of hiring range. Actual pay will be determined based on experience, qualifications, geographic location, and other job-related factors permitted by law. A discretionary annual bonus may be available based on individual and Company performance. This position also qualifies for the benefits detailed at the link provided below.
