Scale Up Engineer / Technical Transfer Lead

The position is a key contributor in bridging innovative research and development with full-scale production. This role involves developing, testing, and implementing new products and processes while ensuring seamless knowledge transfer to manufacturing teams. The ideal candidate is skilled in technical problem-solving, process engineering principles, cross-functional collaboration, and project management to ensure successful scaling of new processes and technologies.
Key Responsibilities: 1. Process Development and Scaling:
- Lead scale-up projects, transitioning processes from laboratory to pilot and production scales.
- Collaborate with R&D teams to understand process requirements and constraints.
- Design experiments, process flow diagrams, and layouts for trials and scale-up activities.
2. Pilot Scale Innovation:
- Investigate and test innovative settings for new products and equipment development at pilot scale.
- Coordinate and lead all aspects of trials, ensuring alignment with project objectives and engaging with cross-functional collaborators.
3. Product and Process Development:
- Develop and refine parameters for manufacturing new or enhanced products.
- Troubleshoot issues to improve safety, quality, and efficiency.
- Propose and implement process improvements and equipment upgrades to meet project goals.
4. Technology Transfer and Implementation:
- Lead the transfer and scale-up of new processes and technologies to manufacturing plants.
- Provide ongoing technical support to manufacturing post-implementation.
5. Optimization and Troubleshooting:
- Identify and resolve bottlenecks in scaled-up processes.
- Perform root cause analysis and corrective actions for technical issues.
- Optimize processes for cost-effectiveness, sustainability, and efficiency.
6. Project Management and Reporting:
- Plan, implement, and monitor projects using project management principles.
- Report on challenges, propose solutions, and track progress against achievements and critical metrics.
7. Knowledge Transfer and Training:
- Train product development and manufacturing staff on new processes.
- Define training needs and develop materials that include EH&S and quality standards.
8. Collaboration and Communication:
- Work closely with R&D, manufacturing, and quality assurance teams.
- Prepare detailed technical reports and presentations for internal and external collaborators.
9. Safety and Compliance:
- Ensure all scale-up activities adhere to safety standards and regulatory requirements.
- Conduct risk assessments and implement mitigation plans.
- Promote a culture of safety within the team.
10. Subject Matter Expertise:
- Act as a Subject Matter Expert (SME) in meetings, providing insights on scaling challenges and process improvements.
Key Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in Chemical, Mechanical or Process Engineering. Master's degree is preferable.
- Experience in process development, scale-up, and technology transfer in a manufacturing or R&D environment.
- Expertise in data analysis and monitoring tools to evaluate process performance. Proficiency in process simulation and design tools and other statistical tools (e.g., Minitab, Monte Carlo method).
- Excellent communication and presentation skills to convey complex technical concepts to diverse audiences.
- Hands-on experience with liquid-filled nutritional formulations or similar product categories would be plus.
- Familiarity with EH&S and quality standards in a production setting.
