Job Summary
The Safety/CI Coordinator is responsible for the implementation, coordination, facilitation and supervision of the facility's safety/continious improvement programs and initiatives.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities - Safety
- Regularly inspects facility operations to ensure that safe job practices are followed,protective equipment is properly utilized, and all required machine/process guards are in place and operational
- Investigates and facilitate the investigation of all accidents and near-miss occurrences identify trends and causes and ensures that corrective measures are implemented
- Works with management to develop safety programs and incentives as appropriate
- Conducts new hire training and ensures new employees understand safety practices and policies
- Provides training to employees on the safe and appropriate operation of machinery and equipment
- Chairs the Safety Committee
- Ensures the facility maintains the proper number of personnel trained in first aid and CPR and that the required level of safety and medical supplies are maintained in inventory
- Conducts and certifies all forklift training
- Coordinates annual fire inspection tours and planned/unplanned tours by other safety and health regulatory agencies
- Monitors facility hearing conservation program
- Coordinates work duties for employees on medical restrictions
- Maintains appropriate communication with immediate management, Human Resources, and third-party claims administrators
- Maintains OSHA 300 log and other required reports
- Prepares regular and special reports as required
- Performs other duties as required
Principle Duties and Responsibilities - Continuous Improvement
- Establish and build the plant’s Continuous Improvement Team
- Coordinate the activities of the site Lean initiative while working with the Continuous Improvement Team on some or all of the stated duties
- Evaluate operations to identify areas of waste and opportunities for improvement
- Audits completed initiatives for sustainability
- Facilitate VSM and Kaizen activities
- Develop, prioritize, and implement solutions to reduce waste and improve performance
- Document and standardize improvements
- Tracks and updates KPI’s
- Work with operations and Operational Excellence Team to drive cost out and documents improvements
- Teach, coach, and mentor all levels of employees in Continuous Improvement and manufacturing principles
- Train employees to identify and eliminate waste
- Develop programs to foster employee involvement to promote a Continuous Improvement culture
- Attend seminars, lectures, and training classes on Continuous Improvement and share gained knowledge with plant staff
- Prepares regular and special reports as required
- Performs other duties as required
Qualifications
- Minimum high school graduate
- Preferably one to two years of experience in safety/CI Environment
- Working knowledge of 5s, Kanban, standardized workflow, value stream mapping, Kaizen, and visual environment/factory
- Working knowledge and proficiency in the use of computer and business-related software, including Microsoft applications Excel, Word and Outlook
- Preferred experience in First Aid and CPR and working knowledge of OSHA and DOT regulations
