You will join a team developing state-of-the-art general-purpose robots designed to operate in human spaces and with human tools. It is designed to work alongside humans, mobilize to human spaces, and manipulate the world around it.
Tinkerers, Makers, Mechanics - we are looking for an experienced technician to join our Advanced Technologies team to build and test cutting-edge robotics hardware. In this role, you will work with custom electronics, tiny mechanisms, precision sensors, and advanced prototyping equipment to create the building blocks for the next generation of Apptronik robots on a fast-paced team focused on rapid iteration.
Responsibilities:
- Perform electro-mechanical assembly of research prototype components and systems
- Utilize hand tools (electrical: soldering iron, crimpers, etc.; mechanical: t-handles, allen keys, torque wrenches, arbor press, etc.) to assemble and install electro-mechanical components, including robotic (sub) assemblies, actuators, cable harnesses with connectors, PCBAs, and sensors
- Set up and run tests and collect data
- Observe and report issues and failure modes
- Work with hardware development engineers to make modifications and fabricate fixes and improvements
- Operate 3D printers and other fabrication equipment
Skills and Requirements:
- Craftsmanship working with miniature/delicate electromechanical assemblies
- Intermediate CAD Proficiency (Solidworks, Creo, or equivalent)
- Electrical Assembly/Soldering (PCB rework/repair)
- Mechanical Assembly/Fabrication (hand tools, machine shop equipment, etc)
- 3D Printing (FDM, SLS, SLA)
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with Cable-Driven Mechanisms (such as RC Aircraft, Puppetry, etc.)
- Experience with Machining/CNC
- Strong CAD proficiency
- Good understanding of GD&T
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
- Associates or Bachelors degree (or equivalent) in Mechatronics, Mechanical or Electrical Engineering, or related field
- At least 2 years of experience in a laboratory/workshop environment assembling mechanical and electrical hardware
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
- Fine manual dexterity for miniature component assembly and installation
- Must be able to lift 15 pounds at times
- Vision to read printed materials and a computer screen, utilize microscopes and magnifiers to work on miniature mechanisms and electronics
- Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer
- Hearing and speech to communicate
