Job Description

AECOM is seeking a talented Roadway/Transportation Design Engineer to join a dynamic and highly technical transportation team of planners, engineers, and technicians in the Chicago, IL office.

As a Roadway / Highway Engineer, you will be an active member during design on our transportation projects for a variety of clients in public and private industries. You will also have the opportunity to be part of cutting-edge design projects that utilize the latest technologies for delivering design services to clients.

Responsibilities:

  • Proficient in applying fundamental engineering, geometric and highway design principles in your work
  • Identify discrepancies in results
  • Work on detailed or routine engineering assignments involving calculations and fundamental design. Tasks includes organizing and developing calculations to be included in design files and following project and industry standards.
  • Perform specific and limited portions of a broader assignment of an experienced engineer. Tasks may include development of project quantities or perform site visit as needed.
  • Demonstrate a good understanding of applicable codes and standards and use of applicable CADD and Microsoft software.
  • Gather and correlate basic engineering data using established and well-defined procedures.
  • Provides guidance to entry level engineers.
  • Perform work in accordance with agreed upon budget and schedule with little supervision.
  • Independently perform all the tasks necessary to complete primary design elements for engineering works.

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements:

  • BA/BS + 4 years of related experience or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • IL Professional Engineering (PE) License
  • Preparation of Plans, Specifications and Estimate (PS&E)
  • Knowledgeable in MicroStation and other CADD software such as Auto Turn, GuideSign or similar.
  • Good communication skills and ability to work as a team
  • Knowledgeable in GEOPAK and/or Bentley OpenRoads Design
  • Familiarity with MS Office Suites (Excel, Word, etc) is required
  • Familiarity with IDOT, ISTHA and CDOT design specifications
