Intro and job overview: 

The Revenue Accounting Manager-Operations & Reporting will be instrumental in managing and overseeing the operations, reporting, and accounting related to revenue recognition. The ideal candidate will possess robust expertise in revenue recognition principles, systems, and reporting, along with exceptional leadership skills to enhance operational efficiency. This role will prioritize ensuring accurate and compliant financial reporting while optimizing revenue-related processes throughout the business.

Responsibilities and Duties: 

  • Revenue Recognition & Compliance:
    • Ensure that all manual accounting for complex/large customer contracts, as well as multi-customer portfolio arrangements, are fully and accurately reflected in Netsuite ARM.
    • Collaborate with Corporate Revenue: Strategy & Controls team to ensure Netsuite ARM accounting accuracy for new products, sales motions, and customer programs.
  • Revenue Operations & Reporting:
    • Ensure accurate and timely monthly close processes
      • Oversee the month-end close cycle for revenue by maintaining and publishing the close calendar, and managing the close process with all stakeholders.
      • Conduct high-quality and prompt reviews of all month-end close deliverables
      • Perform close-related controls including but not limited to
        • Review and approve revenue accounting journal entries for accuracy and completeness (both individual and portfolio-based)
        • Review and approve revenue-related balance sheet account reconciliations.
    • Ensure timely and accurate quarterly/monthly revenue reports
      • Monitor revenue flux by license type
      • Track deferred revenue, contract assets, and working capital flux
      • Prepare revenue schedules by license, business, and product type
      • Maintain remaining performance obligation schedule
  • Systems & Process Optimization:
    • Enhance smart analytics for P&L and B/S flux
    • Work closely with the IT and Operations teams to ensure the accuracy of data inputs into financial systems.
    • Continuously improve and automate revenue recognition processes to enhance efficiency and scalability.
  • Team Leadership & Collaboration:
    • Supervise and mentor a team of accountants, providing guidance on complex revenue recognition issues and helping them develop professionally.
    • Collaborate with sales, legal, and other departments to ensure accurate contract and billing data.
    • Manage revenue-related items for GAAP and regional statutory audits.
    • Provide support for non-routine or new statutory audit requests. Train regional resources to address routine statutory audit requests.

Requirements and Qualifications: .

  • Education: Bachelor's degree in Accounting; CPA or equivalent certification preferred.
  • Experience: Minimum of 5 years of experience in revenue accounting including software moving from perpetual licensing to subscription, with at least 2 years in a supervisory or managerial role. Solid understanding of revenue recognition principles and accounting standards (ASC 606). Public accounting auditing experience required.
  • Team Leadership: Proven experience in leading and managing a team of revenue accountants. Strong leadership and mentoring skills with a focus on team development.
  • Technical Skills: Proficiency in using accounting software and ERP systems, Netsuite ARM a plus. Familiarity with automated revenue recognition tools is a plus. Alteryx, and advanced Excel skills required.
  • Analytical and Problem-Solving Skills: Strong analytical skills with the ability to review and analyze revenue contracts and transactions for accuracy. Proven ability to troubleshoot and resolve complex accounting issues.
  • Communication and Collaboration: Effective communication skills with the ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams. Ability to convey financial information in a clear and concise manner.
  • Process Improvement: Experience in identifying process improvement opportunities and implementing changes for increased efficiency. Familiarity with best practices in revenue accounting and a commitment to continuous improvement.
  • Regulatory Compliance: Understanding of accounting regulations and a commitment to ensuring compliance within the revenue accounting function.
