As a Research Engineer in the Mechanical Components and Systems Lab, you will play a key role in inventing and maturing the mechanical solutions that enable the future of flight: sustainable, high speed, and next generation propulsion and aircraft systems! You will participate in the design, analysis, build, and/or test of novel solutions to push the state of the art of turbomachinery, bearings, gear systems, rotor/stator seals, and rotor dynamics. In this hands-on role, you will help turn ideas into reality.

Roles and Responsibilities
The primary responsibility of the Research Engineer - Mechanical Components and Systems is to create new rotating machinery concept designs, develop analytical methods and tools, and execute testing to validate new mechanical solutions for GE Aerospace and our customers. Additional responsibilities include:
- Prepare and participate in project and technical reviews
- Work with other support functions and/or external suppliers to meet project deliverables
- Protect intellectual property through the generation of patents
- Provide expertise to help resolve technical challenges across the organization
- Collaborate in the development of internal and external project proposals and initiatives
- Demonstrate the GE behaviors: respect for people, continuous improvement, and customer driven
- Foster a multidisciplinary and inclusive team environment
Required Qualifications
This Research Engineer – Mechanical Components and Systems role requires a PhD degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or related discipline, or MS degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or related discipline with a minimum of 3 years of industrial experience. Additionally, the role requires:
- Experience with the mechanical design of rotating machinery components and/or systems
- Experience working on multidisciplinary teams to mature mechanical system technologies through conceptual design, detailed analysis, and/or test execution
- Experience with product design constraints, manufacturing techniques, and material processing selections for rotating machinery
- Proficiency using 3D solid modeling software (e.g., NX, SOLIDWORKS, Creo)
- Analytical experience, including structural/thermal finite element analysis with ANSYS
- Results-oriented execution mindset with a sense of urgency
- Ability to work under pressure and meet aggressive deadlines
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to work across all functions/levels as part of a team
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills in a global team environment

Desired Characteristics
- Experience with rotor support design, rotor dynamics, and rigid body dynamics
- Experience with design and maturation of rotating machinery components (e.g., shafts, bearings, dampers, couplings, seals, gears, etc.) including conceptual design, detailed design, testing, and validation
- Analytical experience in fluid dynamics, thermal, structural, and fluid-structure interaction applications
- Experience with testing of rotating components, data acquisition, data reduction and design validation
The base pay range for this position is $80,000 - $150,000 USD Annually. The specific pay offered may be influenced by a variety of factors, including the candidate’s experience, education, and skill set. This position is also eligible for an annual discretionary bonus based on a percentage of your base salary based on the plan. This posting is expected to close on July 1st, 2025.
