Colossal is looking for a talented biologist with a strong interest in applying synthetic biology to create innovative genetic constructs for the modification of mammalian traits. In this high-impact role, you will work closely with a cross-functional team to drive novel applications in the modification of phenotypes across a variety of species. You will have the opportunity to significantly influence the direction of the project and make an impact across Colossal.
This position is based on-site in Dallas, TX. Relocation assistance is available. 

Duties and Responsibilities: 

  • Perform molecular cloning and troubleshooting of plasmids and gene constructs.
  • Genotype clones of interest and resolve any issues in the process.
  • Work to improve throughput in clonal generation by integrating automation into molecular and cellular workflows.
  • Collaborate with stem cell biologists to optimize gene editing and novel gene integration delivery methods in mammalian models.
  • Analyze and interpret data, making informed decisions to steer the project forward.
  • Contribute to patent generation, helping to protect innovative work and discoveries.
  • Attend lab meetings, prepare reports, and present findings to ensure team alignment and progress on milestones.
  • Demonstrate excellent organizational skills and maintain accurate, detailed lab records.

Required Skills and Abilities:

  • Strong hands-on research experience with molecular cloning, plasmid troubleshooting, and gene construct development.
  • Experience with gene-editing tooling (CRISPR / Cas9 HDR).
  • Proficient in molecular biology techniques, including DNA/RNA extraction, protein isolation, and qPCR.
  • Experience with genotyping design and troubleshooting assays in cellular and mouse models.
  • Excellent organizational skills, ability to handle multiple projects concurrently, and meet deadlines.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills, along with creative problem-solving abilities.
  • Adaptability in a fast-paced, dynamic work environment.

Preferred Skills and Abilities:

  • Experience tagging proteins with fluorophores and expressing fluorophores from ectopic & native enhancers.
  • Experience with high-throughput automation platforms.
  • Familiarity with plate reader instruments and Shimadzu UV-Vis Software.
  • Experience working with bacterial expression systems and their application to mammalian models.

Education and Experience:

  • BA/BS/MA/MS in biological sciences, bioengineering, molecular biology, genetics, or any science related field.
