Description:
The laboratory of Benoit Bruneau at the Gladstone Institutes (http://bruneaulab.gladstone.org) is searching for a Research Associate (RA) to help us study the regulation of genes during heart development, using mouse models in vivo and stem cells in vitro. We are looking for candidates who are strongly motivated, work well in a team, and who could start immediately (or upon graduation). There is a potential for one or two publications within a two year time period. Candidates with plans for graduate school, medical school or dental school are encouraged to apply.
Duties and Responsibilities
We are looking for a research associate whose primary role will be mouse colony maintenance, including record keeping, tagging of animals, preparation of genomic DNA, and PCR genotyping. Training on mouse handling will be provided. Opportunities for expansion of responsibilities into additional projects may be offered based on personal interest.

Mouse husbandry and mouse colony maintenance including breeding, weaning and tagging of animals

Preparation of genomic DNA, and genotyping by PCR

Updates records and log books and assists in maintaining lab records and inventory

Assist in lab management functions including ordering reagents, organizing laboratory inventory
Requirements:
-Associate's degree and 2+ years of relevant experience
-BA/BS in Biological sciences and at least 6 months practical experience in a research laboratory (preferred)
-Excellent verbal and written communication skills
-Strong work ethic
-Strong organizational skills
-Comfortable with handling rodents
Preferred Skills
-PCR and Agarose Gel Electrophoresis
-Mouse Husbandry
-Basic knowledge of mouse genetics
-Preparation of DNA for Genotyping
-Lab management (ordering, restocking, database maintenance
Additional Skills
-Dissection of embryonic mice
-Tissue culture
-Flow cytometry
-Proficiency in Excel, Word, ImageJ Fiji, Photoshop and Illustrator
-R programming (or equivalent)
