The Opportunity
We are recruiting for a Product Development Engineer to join our Abbott Heart Failure Research and Development team in Atlanta, GA, where we are focused on helping people with heart failure manage their health and ultimately change and save lives. The Product Development Engineer will be primarily working on the CardioMEMS HF portfolio, which remotely monitors changes in pulmoanary artery (PA) pressure, an early indicator of the onset of worsening heart failure, to aid physicians in preventing worsening heart failure, lower heart failure mortality rates, and improve quality of life for our heart failure patients. The role is responsible for executing product development tasks for next generation of CardioMEMS implantable sensor using best practice MEMS engineering methods to ensure quality, reliability, and manufacturable MEMS-based sensor designs.
This person will part of development efforts for the next generation product, including product design, requirements definition, design documentation, and product testing, verification, and validation.
What You’ll Work On
- Research, develop, design, and evaluate mechanical components, assemblies, processes, and/or equipment to advance the development of the Next-gen CardioMEMS Sensor.
- Build and test prototypes to evaluate MEMS sensor functionality and performance.
- Analyze and solve problems using basic to advanced engineering principles, theories, and concepts.
- Conduct testing on prototypes, including electrical, mechanical, and functional tests to ensure the devices meet performance requirements.
- Participate in technical design reviews for process equipment and product design and requirements documents.
- Draft test protocols, test reports, and perform data analysis.
- Maintain detailed documentation throughout all phases of research and development.
- Prepare reports, publishes findings, and makes presentations to communicate findings.
- Support the creation of technical drawings, prototypes, and models using CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks, AutoCAD).
- Assist in coordinating efforts with external vendors and suppliers for component sourcing and procurement.
- Perform work in compliance with U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) regulations, other regulatory requirements, company policies, operating procedures, processes, and task assignments.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in Electromechanical, Electrical, Mechanical, Chemical, Biomedical Engineering, or related field.
- 0-2 years related work experience.
- Experience developing test plans and executing testing procedures.
- Multitasks, prioritizes, and meets deadlines in a timely manner.
- Strong organizational and follow-up skills, as well as attention to detail.
- Excellent work ethics. Adaptable, responsible, and accountable.
- Excellent problem-solving and time management skills.
- Shows eager-to-learn attitude and quickly picks up new tasks or software programs.
- Ability to work independently as well as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
- Result-focused with a strong sense of ownership and accountability.
Preferred Qualifications
- Electromechanical Engineering or MEMS engineering background is preferred.
- Previous industrial experience preferred (internships or co-op experiences are acceptable).
- Hands-on experience with prototyping, testing, and troubleshooting mechanical or electrical devices is a plus.
- Demonstrated abilities in CAD (i.e., 3D modeling of parts and assemblies), SolidWorks preferred.
- Demonstrated abilities in statistical analysis (Minitab experience is a plus)
