Background & Purpose of the Job

The Quality Specialist position is a crucial part of the North America Quality Team. The primary responsibility of this role is to lead and ensure adherence to the highest quality standards during evenings and overnight, by maintaining compliance with Unilever and factory specifications, standards, and policies. This role emphasizes rigorous quality control and assurance activities within both laboratory and production settings.
Unilever is seeking a diligent and dedicated Quality Specialist to join our Independence team. The Independence Site primarily handles dry Savory operations, producing Knorr products. This dynamic environment offers opportunities for continuous growth and improvement, presenting new challenges and learning experiences daily.
WHAT WILL YOUR MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES BE
Reporting to the Site Quality Manager, the Quality Specialist is integral to achieving Unilever’s objective of consumer satisfaction. This individual ensures adherence to factory specifications, standards, and the Quality Management System (QMS) pertaining to food safety, quality assurance, and controls in compliance with relevant regulatory requirements.
The Quality Specialist supports site quality improvement initiatives to guarantee consumer safety and overall product quality, resolving consumer and customer concerns.
Each Quality Specialist becomes a subject matter expert in their designated areas, which periodically rotate to enhance individual expertise and ensure departmental sustainability.
They will:
Ensure compliance with our factory standards, specifications and GMPs.
Ensure effectiveness via use of assessment/audit and CAPA that supports the findings.
Ensure quality program skill and training programs implemented for site. Provide technical expertise (SME) to support risk identification and mitigation strategies Leads sprint teams to quickly address and resolve Quality issues in both systems and processes.
Support the Quality Management System improvement process for the most relevant topics including SAP-QM and QualityOne (Veeva).
Drives continuous improvements and investigation for consumer contacts Provides Quality updates to Category to key stake holders
This position will be the shift Quality Specialist leader, during evenings and overnights responsible for reporting performance to the Quality Manager. You’re a born leader: You will have the opportunity to lead shifts with cross-functional team members and drive decisions to achieve one common goal. Quality shift Lead: You will serve as the escalation authority for addressing quality escalations, making decisions, and managing food safety incidents. You’re a dot connector: You will view the project landscape through the eyes of the consumer as well as the business.

You’re a changemaker: You influence team members to develop creative solutions to new and existing challenges.
WHAT YOU WILL NEED TO SUCCEED
- Bachelor’s degree, preferably in Biology, Food Sciences, Regulatory Sciences, or Chemistry
- Demonstrated and applied knowledge of GMP, HACCP, ISO 22716, Allergen Management, Food Safety, FSSC 22000, FDA 21 CFR 210, etc.
- Preferred 1 years of experience in Supply Chain Quality or R&D, additional experience in Manufacturing a plus.
- An affinity for change management and digital solutions
- Preferred team leadership and demonstrated leader of functional working teams
- Basic proficiency in MS tools (Excel, Power BI, PPT) and UL Business Systems (SAP, PLM)
- Strong analytical skills; ability to translate data into action and follow-through
- Excellent math, written and verbal communication skills
- Flexible, motivated individual with the ability to adapt quickly and effectively.
- Ability to lead in a fast-paced and challenging environment
- Basic knowledge of dry savory composition, sanitation principles, microbiology and quality assurance policies and regulations.
- Experience with lean manufacturing principles and statistical analytics platforms preferred
- Applied knowledge of dry food manufacturing equipment and digital systems preferred
- Must be able to work evening to overnight shift

Pay: The pay range for this position is $58,700 to $86,280. Unilever takes into consideration a wide range of factors that are utilized in making compensation decisions including, but not limited to, skill sets, experience and training, licensure and certifications, qualifications and education, and other business and organizational needs.
Bonus: This position is bonus eligible.
Long-Term Incentive (LTI): This position is LTI eligible.
