The Role

Job Overview
Applied Systems, Inc., a worldwide insurance technology leader, seeks a Senior Quality Analyst (Manual Tester) for our Applied Payments division. In this role, your responsibilities will include recommending testing approaches, managing test environments, and ensuring testing is completed within set timeframes. You will prioritize and review testing tasks and develop roadmaps to elevate testing maturity. By sharing best practices, you will provide valuable information, feedback, and expertise to drive the delivery of defect-free applications.
What You'll Do

  • Partner with Engineering Teams to establish and maintain an in-depth understanding of how the system works to recommend testing strategies, test environments, and testing practices
  • Develop and maintain robust manual test cases, test environments, and test data to support the team with repeatable execution
  • Apply hands-on expertise in formulating test cases leveraging modern tools like Xray
  • Research and identify root causes of technical issues in partnership with technical teams, and provide in-depth analysis to resolve issues, anticipate risks, and ensure timely actions
  • Collaborate with Software Engineering and Product Management stakeholders to strategize, estimate, and implement manual test strategies
  • Establish and maintain technical documentation related to test architecture, design steps, integration processes, and procedures up to date
  • Actively engage in Agile ceremonies such as backlog refinement, release planning, retrospectives, and reviews
  • Ensure planning and completion of testing within timeframes for readiness and release of new features to ensure quality acceptance criteria are met


What You'll Need to Succeed
We're looking for someone who:

  • Ability to go to the office approximately once a week in Chicago, Salt Lake City, or Toronto


Your experience should include some or all of the following:

  • 5+ years of experience in a Quality Analyst role, preferably working with software engineering teams to build cloud-based software applications
  • 5+ years of Manual Testing experience
  • Advanced experience testing web applications
  • Practical experience with API testing tools like Postman
  • Practical knowledge of databases such as SQL Server
  • Fundamental understanding of microservices and cloud-based technologies
  • Practical experience reviewing and analyzing logs to validate functionality and identify potential defects
  • Proven ability to define test cases and prioritize to ensure the quality of each release
  • Proven technical abilities, troubleshooting skills, and research abilities

Additionally, you may have:

  • Experience with Agile frameworks, ideally Scrum or Kanban using tools like Jira and Confluence
  • Experience with DevOps (Git, Docker, Kubernetes , Terraform, Deployment Pipelines, Observability Tools)
  • Familiarity with automation tools such as Cypress a plus
  • Insurance industry exposure
