The World Diabetes Foundation (WDF) is looking for a dynamic and experienced Innovative Financing Project Manager to support the Diabetes Investment Accelerator (DIA) which includes driving a pipeline of innovative financing projects in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs).

The position
As a Project Manager you will support the implementation of the DIA, contribute to the design and structuring of new and planned innovative and blended finance vehicles in a selected number of LMICs.
The position involves working closely with local teams and partners, global and local experts and consultants and colleagues at WDF to co-develop specific investment cases. Furthermore, the role entails ensuring programmatic excellence and effective delivery of the projects financed through the DIA incl. monitoring and evaluation of projects rolled out.
As part of your responsibilities, you will contribute to:

  • Setting up the DIA including legal and contractual set up, contract templates, framework agreements, and terms for investors and other relevant stakeholders.
  • Conceptualization and preparation of innovative financing proposals for impact investors and other funders incl. investor pitches, dialogues, and fundraising activities.
  • Development and identification of the project pipeline incl. identification of project opportunities, risks and due diligence assessment.
  • Technical support to project partners to ensure timely implementation of project activities and tracking and quality monitoring of projects based on partnership contracts, implementation plans, and progress reports.
  • Ensuring compliance with agreements, regulations, and requirements attached to our work, including funder/investor compliance requirements and WDF code of conduct.
  • Keeping up to date with policy developments and trends in innovative finance and represent DIA in external meetings and innovative financing forums, as well as coordinate visits to innovative finance project sites by our team, colleagues, funders, and other stakeholders.


Furthermore, you will collaborate closely with other WDF departments to ensure the DIA and projects are well understood and information is available for program development, fundraising, and communication needs.
Qualifications
To thrive in this role, you hold a university degree in international finance, economics, business, law, international relations, or other relevant degree, and have +5 years of working experience, preferably in innovative finance, such as experience of working with impact investment partners / consortia, fund management or direct experience in developing blended finance structures.
Furthermore, we expect that you have experience and skills in the following areas:

  • Project management incl. relevant tools and systems
  • Design, implementation and evaluation of innovative financing mechanisms incl. blended finance funds, impact bonds, and debt/equity/loan options for social impact
  • Communication and reporting to impact investors, outcome funders and philanthropies
  • Global health or social sector development programming, especially working/field experience in one or more LMIC countries is a plus
  • Proposal development in innovative or blended financing; including experience in (or understanding of) stakeholder management and effective management of risks related to innovative finance
  • Fluency in English (written and oral) is required, fluency in French and/or Spanish or other language skills is a plus.

About the department
The World Diabetes Foundation is a leading funder of diabetes prevention and access to care projects in LMICs. We work through local implementing partners, and we are currently creating a knowledge base and building alliances with the aim of deploying innovative financing mechanisms for diabetes prevention and care in LMIC contexts. Increased investment in prevention and access to care for diabetes and related Non-Communicable Diseases (NCDs) is urgently needed and we believe that innovative financing mechanisms carry a great potential both for investors, corporates, DFI's, and philanthropies. Through WDF's Diabetes Investment Accelerator (DIA) initiative, we are exploring whether such models could be a way to scale up efforts and unlock new types of funding and partnering with various types of stakeholders.
It is expected that you will travel to countries where WDF works to visit relevant project partners, with short- or long-term notice.
