OVERVIEW OF ROLE:
The Project Engineer will work with the engineering team in managing the planning and execution of capital projects related to the design and function of manufacturing processes. The Project Engineer will work cross-functionally to ensure the successful execution of projects and provide expertise to the organization.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Conceptualizes, authors, and submits projects for approval.
- Assure projects comply with relevant environmental, health and safety, USDA, and cGMP regulations.
- Determine project impact to plant throughput and yield, utility usage, emissions, and labor needs.
- Provide technical engineering expertise for the design, scope, and implementation of manufacturing processes and equipment in capital projects to meet business objectives.
- Maintain plant and facility layouts and prepare design plans to integrate new assets into manufacturing processes.
- Manage budget and account spend projections throughout the duration of projects.
- Work with equipment OEMs, vendors, and contractors to evaluate potential solutions, gather quotes, make recommendations, determine final design and scope, and develop install and commissioning plans.
- Build positive collaborative relations and seek feedback with all cross-functional departments impacted by capital projects including but not limited to QA, Production, Maintenance, R&D, Marketing, Sales, Finance, Facilities, IT, Controls, EHS, and Logistics.
- Submit purchase orders for all project related spending and process associated invoices.
- Develop and manage project schedules and Gantt charts to effectively communicate deliverable due dates, equipment delivery times, impacts to the production schedule, shutdowns needed, contractor work, and when throughput, cost, or labor changes will go into effect.
- Provide engineering assistance and feedback to other company projects not being led by the engineering team.
- Is present and contributes for all project validation steps and engineering test plans, including technical testing of any product quality impact, process change verification, factory acceptance testing, onsite install start-up and commissioning, and production handoff.
- Maintains knowledge of existing Home Market Foods processes and assets to ensure projects address all challenges and will provide a net benefit for the business.
- Additional duties as assigned.
EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:
- Bachelor's Degree in Chemical, Mechanical, or Industrial Engineering or similar work experience
- Minimum of 2-5 years of engineering experience in the manufacturing industry required
- Basic computer skills and proficiency with AutoCAD, Microsoft Office Suite, and ERP Systems
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS AND ENVIRONMENT:
- Must have good vision and manual dexterity.
- Able to sit / stand for prolonged periods at a desk and working on a computer
- Ability to work weekends and overtime as necessary to complete projects and installations
